  1. 1. Evaluation of microbial health risks associated with the reuse of source-separated humna urine

    Författare :Caroline Höglund; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :urine-separation; urine; wastewater systems; wastewater reuse; recycling; enteric pathogens; faecal sterols; indicator bacteria; hygiene risks; microbial persistence; microbial risk assessment; QMRA; fertiliser; crop;

    Sammanfattning : Human excreta contain plant nutrients and have the potentialto be used as a fertiliser in agriculture. Urine contributesthe major proportion of the nutrients (N, P and K) in domesticwastewater whereas faeces contribute a smaller amount andinvolves greater health risks if reused due to the possiblepresence of enteric pathogens. 2. 2. Denitrification as an adaptive trait in soil and groundwater bacteria

    Författare :Christer Bergwall; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microcosm; forest soil; aquifer; groundwater; reductase; nitrous oxide; nitric oxide; nitrite; nitrate; selection; adaptation; bacteria; nitrification; Denitrification; dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium; fertiliser; 15NO3-; 15NH4 ; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of the thesis is on selection and adaptation processes in bacteria with emphasis on denitrifying bacteria in groundwater. Other nitrogen transformation processes such as dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (nitrate ammonification) and nitrification of forest soil bacteria are briefly discussed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterisation of Fuels and Fly Ashes from Co-Combustion of Biofuels and Waste Fuels in a Fluidised Bed Boiler. A Phosphorus and Alkali Perspective

    Författare :Anita Pettersson; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus recovery; co-combustion; fluidised bed combustion; olivine; Biofuels; zeolites; fertiliser; extraction; refuse derived fuels; kaolin; alkali; sulphur; ash; municipal sewage sludge;

    Sammanfattning : In the efforts to create sustainable production of heat and power and to reduce the net CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, alternative fuels are today being utilised. These fuels are, for example, biofuels and waste derived fuels such as different residues from the agricultural sector and the pulp and paper industry, municipal sewage sludge and municipal sorted solid waste. 4. 4. Chemical Properties of FBC Ashes

    Författare :Britt-Marie Steenari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; straw ash; environmental impact of ash handling; sintering; deposits; fouling; wood ash recycling; FBC; ash leaching; ash chemistry; PFBC; forest fertiliser; ash hydration reactions; fuel additives; wood ash characteristics; CaS; ash melting; plant nutrient recycling;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis several aspects of ash chemistry are discussed. An issue of primary concern for boiler operators is the formation of ash deposits. New biomass fuels are introduced, many of which have unfavourable ash melting behaviour due to high levels of alkali metal species and chlorine. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ammonia sanitisation of human excreta : treatment technology for production of fertiliser

    Författare :Annika Nordin; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Safe reuse of plant nutrients from human excreta increases the sustainability of society and promotes health, both by decreasing disease transmission and by increasing agricultural production. This thesis examined ammonia sanitisation as a treatment method to produce a hygienically safe fertiliser from source-separated urine and faeces. LÄS MER
