1. National Appropriateness of International Climate Policy Frameworks in India, Brazil, and South Africa
Sammanfattning : How does the international climate policy frameworks influence the domestic institutional responses to climate mitigation in emerging economies? And how, in turn, do domestic institutions and politics in emerging economies influence the fate of international climate policy frameworks? The thesis provides answers to these questions by studying domestic engagements with Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions in three emerging economies – India, Brazil, and South Africa. The thesis specifically studies how these engagements were influenced by the domestic institutional context provided by national climate policy, norms, and institutional capacity in the three countries. 2. Causal links of past climate change in Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 climate models
Sammanfattning : The climate system is influenced by various external forcings (e.g. volcanic forcing, solar forcing and change of greenhouse gas concentrations) and its own internal climate variability. LÄS MER
3. Entangled Cities : Transnational Municipal Climate Networks and Urban Governance
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the influence of transnational municipal climate networks (TMCNs) on urban climate governance in Germany. The reality of climate change means that cities all over the world are faced with two challenges. First, they need to go through decarbonisation transitions to mitigate climate change. LÄS MER
4. On the Arctic Boundary Layer : From Turbulence to Climate
Sammanfattning : The boundary layer is the part of the atmosphere that is in direct contact with the ground via turbulent motion. At mid-latitudes the boundary layer is usually one or a few kilometers deep, while in the Arctic it is much more shallow, typically a few hundred meters or less. LÄS MER
5. Understanding West African Monsoon Variability : Insights from Paleoclimate Modelling of Past Warm Climates
Sammanfattning : The Sahel, a water-vulnerable region in West Africa, relies heavily on rainfed agriculture. The region experienced pronounced droughts during the 20th Century, emphasising the socio-economic importance of understanding the drivers of the rainfall variability. LÄS MER
