  1. 1. Physiology of Adventure Racing : with emphasis on circulatory response and cardiac fatigue

    Författare :C. Mikael Mattsson; Björn Ekblom; Keith P George; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular drift; cardiac fatigue; adventure race; cardiac biomarkers; cardoac function; exercise echocardiography; Physiology; Fysiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Sports; Idrott; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to elucidate the circulatory responses to ultra-endurance exercise (Adventure Racing), and furthermore, to contribute to the clarification of the so called “exercise-induced cardiac fatigue” in relation to said exercise. An Adventure race (AR) varies in duration from six hours to over six days, in which the participants have to navigate through a number of check-points over a pre-set course, using a combination of three or more endurance/outdoor sports, e. 2. 2. Exercise-induced muscle soreness : a qualitative and quantitative study of human muscle morphology and function

    Författare :Jan Fridén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; exercise; exertion; eccentric contractions; muscles; muscle strength; muscle soreness; fibre types; myofibrils; muscle proteins; histocy to chemistry; ultrastructure; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : Exercise-induced muscle soreness is characterized by stiffness, tenderness and pain during active movements and weakness of the affected musculature the days after unusually or particularly heavy work. The most pronounced subjective symptoms do not arise immediately but rather between a couple of hours to some days after the exercise (a delayed-onset of muscle soreness), the intensity of pain is greatest about 48 hours after the work. 3. 3. Physiological- and Socio-Cultural Conditions for Performance in Women's Ice Hockey

    Författare :Tommy Henriksson; Kajsa Gilenstam; Anncristine Fjellman-Wiklund; Truls Raastad; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; women s ice hockey; female hockey players; positional characteristics; birth distribution; maturity status; exercise physiology; test methodology; sport; physiological characteristics; fysiologi; Physiology; gender studies; genusvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The ice hockey community is founded on masculine norms and values, and the hockey rink is often described as “the home of men’s ice hockey”. Despite a growing popularity, women’s ice hockey has low priority in comparison to the men’s game. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers

    Författare :Anna Lundström; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Håkan Eliasson; Jacob Tfelt-Hansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; pediatrics; exercise; Holter; water immersion; arrhythmia; clinical physiology; ECG; heart rate variability; heart rate response; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning; kardiologi; Cardiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 5. 5. Exercising on the edge: mitochondrial and metabolic responses to intense training

    Författare :Mikael Flockhart; Filip J Larsen; Eva Blomstrand; Nikolai Baastrup Nordsborg; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exercise; training; mitochondria; performance; glucose tolerance; proteins; oxygen uptake; metabolism; cycling; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Exercise and exercise training induces several physiological adaptations that increase the oxidative capacity of the muscles and improve glucose regulation. While the positive metabolic adaptations and effects on glucose regulation after exercise and exercise training have been extensively studied, negative outcomes have not. LÄS MER
