  1. 21. Noninvasive haemodynamic evaluation of aortic valve prostheses : Doppler echocardiographic studies at rest and during exercise

    Författare :Maria J Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :heart valve prosthesis; aortic valve replacement; Doppler echocardiography; exercise; haemodynamics; valve resistance;

    Sammanfattning : The present series of investigations was designed to supply information on in vivo pressure-flow relationships and to analyse the incidence of regurgitation in different heart valve prostheses in the aortic position. Patients and methods: The study population comprised 185 patients with mechanical Björk-Shiley Monostrut prostheses, 54 patients with Biocor stented porcine bioprostheses, 50 patients with extended Biocor stentless bioprostheses and 59 patients with cryopreserved aortic homografts. 2. 22. Surgically corrected univentricular hearts. Anatomical, haemodynamic and functional status at a long-term follow-up

    Författare :Eva Strömvall-Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cavopulmonary connections; univentricular hearts; long-term follow-up; pulmonary; arteriovenous malformations; lung volumes; cardiac output; pulmonary gas exchange and maximal; exercise studies;

    Sammanfattning : The Fontan operation and its modifications are applied to a large spectrum of congenital heart defectswith univentricular physiology. The Fontan circulation is characterised by a reduced, non-pulsatilepulmonary blood flow and the elevated central venous pressure is the main driving force for thepulmonary blood flow. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Lung Emphysema & Cardiac Function

    Författare :Kirsten Jörgensen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :emphysema; hemodynamics; ventricular end-diastolic volumes; lung volume reduction; ventricular function; transoesophageal echocardiography; magnetic resonance imaging; diastole; simendan; hypertrophy;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with severe lung emphysema have poor quality of life because of impaired lung function and reduced exercise tolerance. Concomitant heart disease in severe emphysema is well recognised. The prevailing view is that mainly the right side of the heart is involved, while the issue of left ventricular (LV) involvement is less studied. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Menstrual status and long-term cardiovascular effects of intense exercise in top elite athlete women

    Författare :Magnus Hagmar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Elite athletes; female athlete triad; BMI; energy deficiency; amenorrhea; polycystic ovary syndrome; body composition; bone mineral density; postmenopausal women; endothelial function; athlete s heart; echocardiography; exercise test.;

    Sammanfattning : Although physical exercise is generally beneficial for health, female athletes run an elevated risk of developing chronic energy deficiency, with ensuing severe consequences such as reproductive dysfunction, bone demineralization, more frequent injuries, impaired performance, and adverse cardiovascular effects. However, at present little is known about these issues with respect to sportswomen competing at the Olympic level, or about the long-term cardiovascular consequences of intense training for women. 5. 25. Cardiovascular health in children and adolescents with obesity : prevalence, prediction and supervised exercise

    Författare :Pernilla Hedvall Kallerman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of death worldwide and is preceded by a long process in which several cardiovascular (CV) risk factors are present, sometimes already in childhood. Some of these risk factors such as non-dipping blood pressure and microvascular endothelial dysfunction and possible associated factors are little studied among children with obesity. LÄS MER
