  1. 1. Colour patterns in warning displays

    Författare :Marianne Aronsson; Gabriella Gamberale-Stille; Olof Leimar; Candy Rowe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aposematism; warning colouration; colour patterns; avoidance learning; generalization behaviour; signal design; signal evolution; conspicuousness; mimicry; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : In aposematism a prey species use bright colours, often combined with a black contrasting pattern, to signal unprofitability as prey to potential predators. Although there are several different hypotheses about the presence of these internally contrasting patterns, there is little experimental evidence of any beneficial effects. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Behavioural, physiological and morphological correlates of life-history in killifishes − a macroevolutionary approach

    Författare :Simon Eckerström-Liedholm; Alejandro Gonzalez Voyer; Björn Rogell; Alastair Wilson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; brain size evolution; comparative analysis; life-history continuum; risk-taking behaviour; sexual selection; trade-offs; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : Life-histories commonly evolve along a continuum from short-lived and fecund, to long-lived and less fecund. Because life-history traits are mostly components of reproduction and survival, understanding the causes and consequences of life-history variation is at the core of evolutionary biology. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Social dominance and personality in male fowl (Gallus gallus domesticus)

    Författare :Anna Favati; Olof Leimar; Charlie Cornwallis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; behavioural syndromes; intra-sexual selection; phenotypic plasticity; social dominance; chicken; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : Individuals in social species commonly form dominance relationships among each other, andare often observed to differ in behaviour depending on their social status. However, whethersuch behavioural differences are a consequence of dominance position, or also a cause to it,remains unclear. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The relationship between personality and social dominance in the domestic fowl – a critical perspective

    Författare :Anna Favati; Olof Leimar; Hanne Løvlie; Andrew Sih; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aggression; behavioural syndromes; chicken; Gallus gallus domesticus; intra-sexual selection; resource holding potential; social hierarchy; social rank; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : Social dominance relationships are formed within numerous animal species and reduce costly fights over resources. Dominant individuals often enjoy greater access to important resources such as food and mating partners, and are generally more aggressive, bold, active and explorative compared to subdominant individuals. 5. 5. Resources, the environment, and sex : Examining variation in sexually selected traits in a livebearing fish

    Författare :Erika Fernlund Isaksson; John Fitzpatrick; Gil G. Rosenthal; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mate choice; sexual selection; competition; resource restriction; condition dependence; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : Striking variation is observed in sexually selected traits. These traits influence the outcome of competition and choice before and after mating. Before mating, animals compete for the access to mating partners and choose who to mate with between several potential mates. LÄS MER
