  1. 1. Enzyme immobilization in mesoporous silica

    Författare :Hanna Gustafsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pH probe; Mesoporous silica; particle morphology; immobilization; pore size; quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring; enzyme; biocatalysis;

    Sammanfattning : Enzymes are highly effective and versatile biological catalysts, with a high chemo-, stereo- and regioselectivity while operating under mild conditions, such as physiological temperature and pH and atmospheric pressure. Therefore, enzymes are a sustainable alternative to conventional catalysts in organic synthesis processes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Alkaliphilic Bacillus species and an alkaline active lipolytic enzyme

    Författare :Virginia Vargas Calle; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; soda lakes; alkaliphilic Bacillus sp.; lipolytic enzyme; Bacillus bogoriensis; Bacillus halodurans; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The Great Rift Valley running through Eastern Africa contains a large number of soda lakes. These unique lakes constitute among the most stable alkaline environments with a dense and varied population of microorganisms. Such microorganisms are invariable alkaliphiles and are considered to be a promising source of enzymes with unique features. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Poly (3-hydroxybutyrate) from a moderate halophile: production and modification for new applications

    Författare :Marlene Munoz; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biopolymers; polyhydroxyalkanoates; polyhydroxybutyrate; moderate halophile; Halomonas boliviensis; fermentation; recovery; thermally induced phase separation; scaffolds; covalent modification; hydrophobic ion pairing; polyethylenemine; lysozyme.;

    Sammanfattning : Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a homopolymer belonging to the family of biopolyesters, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) produced by different bacteria and archaea as intracellular granules often under conditions of metabolic stress due to a limited supply of essential nutrients. The properties of the PHAs are similar to those of polyethylene and polypropylene and can hence replace these fossil based polymers in a large variety of applications. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Novel strategies for enzyme replacement with gene therapy in models of Parkinson’s disease

    Författare :Erik Cederfjäll; Brain Repair and Imaging in Neural Systems (BRAINS); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AAV vectors; dopamine; enzyme replacement; gene regulation; GTP cyclohydrolase 1; L-DOPA; tyrosine hydroxylase; Parkinson’s disease;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder characterized by loss of dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain, resulting in the characteristic motor symptoms: resting tremor, rigidity, akinesia and postural instability. Symptomatic treatment is based on reconstituting the loss of dopamine in the brain, primarily by oral administration of its precursor L-DOPA. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A long journey from bioanode to biocathode

    Författare :Soroush Saheb Alam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biocathode; Bioelectrochemical system; Storage; Starvation; Microbial electrolysis cell; Bioanode; Microbial fuel cell; Mixed microbial communities; Hydrogenotrophic microorganisms;

    Sammanfattning : Better utilization of renewable sources of energy and recovery of resources from waste streams are important challenges for researchers. Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) are new technologies which e.g. could be used to produce green energy from waste sources or store renewable electricity as chemical fuels. LÄS MER
