1. ST analysis of the fetal ECG as an adjunct to fetal heart rate monitoring in labour-a clinical validation
Sammanfattning : The ability to make an accurate assessment of fetal well-being during labour is a great challenge. Animal and human studies have shown that fetal hypoxemia during labour can alter the shape of the fetal electrocardiogram (FECG) waveform, notable elevation of the T-wave and depression of the ST segment. 2. Different aspects of electronic fetal monitoring during labor
Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiotocography (CTG) is a tool to assess fetal well-being during labor and to detect early signs of fetal distress and thereby enable timely interventions to reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality. CTG is associated with shortcomings; poor reliability in interpretation, low specificity with a high proportion of false positive tracings indicating fetal distress when not accurate, no proven effect on rare severe outcomes such as mortality and cerebral palsy, but rather contributing to an increased risk of operative delivery. 3. Fetal reactivity assessment during intrapartum stress by analysis of the fetal ECG signal
Sammanfattning : Fetal responses to the stress of labour and delivery are constituted by a combination of changes in neuronal, hormonal and organ based reactions. The aim of electronic fetal monitoring is to identify fetuses at risk of hypoxia during birth, thus enabling timely intervention to avoid an adverse outcome. LÄS MER
4. Acidaemia at Birth: Risk factors, diagnosis and prognosis, with special reference to maternal fever in labour
Sammanfattning : Acidaemia at birth is a result of an impaired intrauterine gas exchange. Between 1988 and 1996, acid-base balance in cord artery blood pH was assessed in 23 016 of 27 064 newborns (85%). Obstetric risk factors for acidaemia (cord artery pH < 7.05) were identified in a case-control study. LÄS MER
