  1. 1. Myocardial electromechanical function in long QT syndrome

    Författare :Dafni Charisopoulou; Michael Y. Henein; Annika Rydberg; Anders Jonzon; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; stress-echocardiography; left ventricular filling; mechanical dispersion; diastolic myocardial function; exercise; arrhythmia; electromechanical window; speckle-tracking echocardiography; myocardial relaxation sequence.; kardiologi; Cardiology; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Sammanfattning : AIM: The aim of this thesis is to assess, in LQTS and according to genotype, the myocardial electromechanical (EM) function response to exercise, its relation to symptoms and its response to b-blocker therapy. To achieve this aim, we conducted 4 studies with the following specific objectives: i. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ventricular Long Axis Function: Amplitudes and Timings : Echocardiographic Studies in Health and Disease

    Författare :Frederick Bukachi; Anders Waldenstrom; Derek Gibson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Echocardiography; Doppler Tissue Imaging; Ageing; coronary disease; left ventricular function; atrial contraction; electromechanical function; coronary angioplasty.; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The ageing process not only increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) but also complicates its diagnosis and treatment. It is therefore important to understand the newer concepts of cardiovascular ageing physiology as well as methods of predicting the outcomes of therapeutic options available for the elderly with severe CAD. 3. 3. Insights into the effect of myocardial revascularisation on electrical and mechanical cardiac function

    Författare :Ihab Ramzy Guirguis; Michael Y Henein; Stellan Mörner; Reidar Winter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial infarction; natriuretic peptides; echocardiography; ventricular function; atrial function; surgical revascularisation; speckle tracking echocardiography; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Acute coronary syndrome is known for its effect on cardiac function and can lead to impaired segmental and even global myocardial function. Evidence exists that myocardial revascularisation whether pharmacological, interventional or surgical results in improvement of systolic and diastolic left ventricular (LV) function, particularly that of the long axis which represents the sub-endocardial function, known as the most sensitive layer to ischaemia. 4. 4. Control Lyapunov Functions : A Control Strategy for Damping of Power Oscillations in Large Power Systems

    Författare :Mehrdad Ghandhari; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; UPFC; CSC; QBT; Lyapunov function; Control Lyapunov Function; SIME; Sliding mode; Electric power engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In the present climate of deregulation and privatisation, theutilities are often separated into generation, transmission anddistribution companies so as to help promote economic efficiencyand encourage competition. Also, environmental concerns,right-of-way and cost problems have delayed the construction ofboth generation facilities and new transmission lines while thedemand for electric power has continued to grow, which must bemet by increased loading of available lines. 5. 5. Electromechanical effects and optimization modalities of cardiac resynchronization therapy

    Författare :Cinzia Valzania; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiac resynchronization therapy; coronary blood flow; dyssynchrony; echocardiography; exercise; heart failure; hemodynamics; intracardiac electrogram; intracardiac impedance; optimization;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Heart failure is a major health care problem, with high morbidity and mortality rates. In recent years, cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has become an established additive treatment for patients with advanced heart failure, left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, and wide QRS complex.
