  1. 1. Office work and physical factors : health aspects of electromagnetic fields and light

    Författare :Monica Sandström; Kjell Hansson Mild; Gunnar Nordberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Facial skin symptoms; office illness; electrical hypersensitivity; physical environment; flicker; jitter; neurophysiological effects;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of the physical environment of office workers with special focus on electromagnetic fields and to address the question of whether electromagnetic fields can directly or indirectly contribute to symptoms or discomfort among video display terminal ( VDT) workers. Furthermore, we have measured light modulation from various commonly used light sources in laboratory conditions and, as a second step, used modulated light as stimulus for provocation of neurophysiological responses in persons with perceived “electrical hypersensitivity” (EHS). 2. 2. Idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields : physiological and psychological aspects

    Författare :Amanda Johansson; Lena Hillert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :electrical hypersensitivity; EHS; mobile phone; MP; heart rate variability; HRV; provocation study; radiofrequency field; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on people with symptoms attributed to electromagnetic fields (EMF) by investigating the effects of EMF exposure and by additional description of the heterogeneous group of people reporting EMF-related symptoms. The effect of mobile phone (MP)-like radio frequency (RF) fields on symptoms, autonomic nervous system (ANS) parameters, short-term memory, and reaction time in persons with MP-related symptoms (MP participants) was investigated in a provocation study. 3. 3. Environmental intolerance : psychological risk and health factors

    Författare :Eva Palmquist; Steven Nordin; Gregory Neely; Berndt Stenberg; Michael Witthöft; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Environmental intolerance; stress; anxiety; depression; burnout; prognosis; recovery; spreading; coping; social support; co-prevalence; Västerbotten Environmental Health Study; idiopathic environmental intolerance; multiple chemical sensitivity; sick building syndrome; noise sensitivity; electromagnetic hypersensitivity; Psychology; psykologi; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental intolerance (EI) is an embracing term for a number of conditions characterized by a wide range of non-specific symptoms attributed to certain environmental exposures (e.g. pungent/odorous chemicals, residing in a certain building, electromagnetic fields and everyday sounds). EI often leads to lifestyle alterations (e. LÄS MER

  4. 4. "Elöverkänslighet" : En förklaringsmodell, några karakteristika hos drabbade och effekten av psykologisk behandling med kognitiv-beteendeterapeutiska metoder

    Författare :Uwe Harlacher; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; cognitive behaviour therapy; electricity hypersensitivity; cognitive schema; Applied and experimental psychology; idiopathic environmental intolerance; Tillämpad och experimentell psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis examines various aspects of "electricity hypersensitivity" (EH). An empirical investigation of a group of persons suffering from EH was carried out, a part of the group being treated psychologically according to cognitive- behavioural principles in a controlled outcome study. 5. 5. Hypersensitivity to electricity : symptoms, risk factors and therapeutic interventions

    Författare :Lena Hillert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Persons reporting nonspecific health complaints attributed to activated electrical equipment have been a growing concern in Sweden in the last decades. The aims of this thesis were to investigate possible risk factors (personal and work-related), symptoms, and complaints associated with reported hypersensitivity to electricity (HE) and to test hypotheses concerning possible biological mechanisms and effective treatments.
