1. Four-Body Treatment of the Hydrogen-Antihydrogen System
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a nonadiabatic (4-body) description of the hydrogen-antihydrogen system at a nonrelativistic level. The properties of the system, the rearrangement processes and the possible existence of resonance states are investigated by using a variational method for coupled arrangement channels, the Gaussian Expansion Method, and the stabilization method. 2. Exploring the Exotic Experimental Investigations far from Stability
Sammanfattning : The exploration of exotic nuclei is one of the most intriguing and fastest expanding fields in modern nuclear physics. In the extreme conditions of unsymmetric neutron-proton distributions and small binding energies many nuclear phenomena not encountered closer to stability have revealed themselves, often as a surprise to the nuclear physics community, the prime example being the development of halo structures as the binding energy diminishes. 3. Disordered matter: From Ionic Glasses to Proteins
Sammanfattning : Understanding the glassy state is regarded as one of the ten most important questions in physics in the 21st century [1]. This thesis deals with structure and dynamics of a few model disordered systems ranging from an ionic glass to proteins. The structure of an ionic liquid, Ca0.4K0. LÄS MER
4. Multidimensional nuclear dynamics studied by resonant X-ray scattering and pump-probe spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the theoretical studies of the multidimensional nuclear dynamics in molecules with the help of X-ray and pump-probe spectroscopy. Using an accurate yet computationally cheap mixed approach multimode X-ray absorption spectra (XAS) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra of water, methanol, and acetic acid were calculated and compared with the available experimental spectra in the gas and liquid phases. 5. Optical Imaging and Spectroscopy of Metal Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : Noble metal structures with size in the sub 100 nm range exhibit extraordinary optical properties due to collective oscillations of conduction electrons, the surface plasmon resonances (SPR). The most remarkable feature of these structures is the ability to redistribute electromagnetic radiation and concentrate strong fields near the surface. LÄS MER
