1. Biomarkers of fish consumption and risk of stroke or myocardial infarction
Sammanfattning : The effect of fish consumption on the risk of cardiovascular disease has been extensively studied. Omega-3 fatty acids present in fish, namely eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), have been found to have beneficial effects through several mechanisms. In addition, selenium, an antioxidant, may be protective. LÄS MER
2. Lipid Composition and Deterioration in Light and Dark Muscle of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
Sammanfattning : Nutritionally valuable lipids, including lipid classes and their fatty acids in light and dark muscle, have been determined and analyzed in farmed rainbow trout. Dark muscle was found to have a higher content of total lipids than light muscle, 7.3 wt% versus 3.0 wt%, which was mostly accounted for by neutral lipids, especially triacylglycerols. LÄS MER
3. Dietary Intake, Fatty Acid Biomarkers, and Abdominal Obesity : Population-Based Observational Studies
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the associations between fatty acid (FA) biomarkers, carbohydrate intake, and abdominal obesity (AO) and related anthropometric measures in a population-based cohort of men and women in Stockholm County. The overall hypothesis was that dietary fat quality assessed by serum and adipose tissue FA composition, and dietary intake of especially carbohydrates is associated with AO. LÄS MER
4. Lipids and Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation
Sammanfattning : Impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDV) is associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as well as several of its risk factors. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate how lipids influence EDV in the vascular bed of the human forearm. LÄS MER
5. Early dietary exposure is associated with allergy development in the FARMFLORA birth cohort
Sammanfattning : The allergy prevalence is markedly low in children growing up on farms. Contact with livestock and consumption of unpasteurized milk has been associated with allergy protection, although other elements in the environment may contribute. LÄS MER
