1. Complexity Theory and Physics Education Research : The Case of Student Retention in Physics and Related Degree Programmes
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the use of complexity theory in Physics Education Research as a way to examine the issue of student retention (a university’s ability to retain its students). University physics education is viewed through the concepts of nestedness and networked interactions. LÄS MER

The study examines how gender, knowledge in physics and the image of the subject physics are constructed in the students’ conversation and how these processes are related to each other. LÄS MER
5. Computational problem solving in university physics education : Students’ beliefs, knowledge, and motivation
Sammanfattning : Solving physics problem in university physics education with a computational approach requires knowledge and skills in several domains, for example, physics, mathematics, programming, and modelling. These competences are in turn related to students' beliefs about these domains as well as about learning, and their motivation to learn. LÄS MER
