    Sammanfattning : In five autopsy specimen studies human temporomandibular joints were investigated by conventional tomography, macroscopy, and microscopy for degenerative changes, in particular erosive hard-tissue changes.In the microscopical evaluation special attention was paid to the calcified cartilage. 2. 2. Inflammatory and degenerative disease in the temporomandibular joint

    Författare :Göran W Gynther; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :clinical findings; degenerative changes; generalized osteoarthritis; histology; immunohistochemistry; internal derangement; radiographic changes; rheumatoid arthritis; synovial inflammation; temporomandibular jointISBN 91-628-1 9;

    Sammanfattning : Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthroscopy is an established technique with high diagnostic accuracy regarding synovitis and degenerative changes of the articular fibrocartilage and disk. However, so far no studies have been done to correlate the macroscopic and histologic findings with each arthroscopic criterion. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mitochondrial dysfunction in ageing and degenerative disease

    Författare :Anna Wredenberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells contains a dynamic network of double-membraned organelles, called mitochondria, which perform the process of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) that provides cellular energy in the form of ATP. The respiratory chain creates an electrochemical gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane, which drives ATP synthesis by the ATP synthase. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Periarticular changes in association with osteoarthritis in the hip, knee or shoulder

    Författare :Mustafa Ibrahim; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osteoarthritis; Tendinopathy; Bone mineral density;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the presence of degenerative changes in the periarticular tendons in association with osteoarthritis (OA) in the hip, knee or shoulder. Moreover, changes in bone mineral density (BMD) in the hip, spine and calcanei were investigated after total hip arthroplasty (THA). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Changes in sensory systems during aging : an experimental study in the rat

    Författare :Esbjörn Bergman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aging; behavior; primary sensory neuron; dorsal root ganglion; mystacial pad; sensory nerve ending; axon dystrophy; neuropeptides; B4; RT97; CTB; neurotrophins; trk; p75NTR; GFR[alpha]; RET; protein; mRNA;

    Sammanfattning : Aging is associated with sensorimotor disturbances, including increased proprioceptive thresholds. The present study aimed to clarify the occurrence of structural and biochemical alterations in sensory systems of behaviorally characterized aged rats. LÄS MER
