  1. 1. Neutrophil recruitment in H. pylori induced inflammation: characterization of regulatory factors

    Författare :Mikael Innocenti; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Helicobacter pylori; endothelial cells; neutrophils; monocytes; transendothelial; migration; chemokines; cytokines; adhesion molecules inflammation; LPS; CagPAI; VacA;

    Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium colonizing the human gastric mucosa, is strongly associatedwith the development of gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as gastric, adenocarcinoma.Virtually all infected individuals develop active chronic gastritis characterized by a continousinfiltration of neutrophils as well as mononuclear cells. 2. 2. Coxsackievirus B3 Infection and Host Defence Responses Change the Metabolism of PBDE

    Författare :Magnus Lundgren; Nils-Gunnar Ilbäck; Hans Tjälve; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coxsackievirus; environmental pollutants; PBDE; cytokines; chemokines; metabolism; infection; tissue distribution; toxicology; virology; immunology; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Virology; Virologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : It has been suggested that the rising amounts of chemicals in the environment may affect host resistance and increase susceptibility to infections. Studies have also shown that infections can change the toxicity of pollutants. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pinpointing biomarkers of importance for children with combined type 1 diabetes and celiac disease

    Författare :Andrea Tompa; Maria Faresjö; Karin Åkesson; Mikael Karlsson; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; celiac disease; children; biomarkers; immune markers; flow cytometry; cryopreservation; T cells; T-regulatory cells; B cells; B-regulatory cells; cytokines; chemokines; acute phase proteins; adipocytokines; matrix metalloproteinases;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and celiac disease are both characterized by an autoimmune feature. The diseases also share the same risk genes, and thereby patients have an increased risk of developing the other disease subsequently. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modulation of inflammation by immunostimulatory DNA

    Författare :Jan Bjersing; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :CpG DNA; arthritis; phosphodiester; phosphorothioate; nucleotide modification; cytokines; chemokines; FcgammaR; B cell subsets.;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the roles of different types of DNA in inflammatory responses. We compared the immune responses to nuclease-protected phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotides (S-ODNs) and phosphodiester oligodeoxynucleotides (O-ODNs) that either contained or lacked CpG motifs. 5. 5. Malaria during pregnancy and childhood : A focus on soluble mediators and neutrophils

    Författare :Stéphanie Boström; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Maria Yazdanbakhsh; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasmodium falciparum; pregnancy; childhood; neutrophils; biomarkers; cytokines; chemokines; antibodies; Fulani; Dogon; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : In areas where malaria is endemic, pregnant women and children bear the main burden of severe and life-threatening malarial disease. The aim of this work was to study the impact of Plasmodium falciparum infection on inflammatory responses in pregnant women and children residing in African countries. LÄS MER
