  1. 1. Developmental disturbances of the embryo in diabetic pregnancy

    Författare :Parri Wentzel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; diabetes; pregnancy; embryo; malformation; glucose; ROS; SOD; NAC; prosta- glandin; COX; COX inhibitor; gene expression; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Maternal diabetes during pregnancy constitutes an increased risk for congenital malformation in the offspring. Previous studies have suggested that diabetic embryopathy is associated with an excess of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as with a disturbance of prostaglandin (PG) metabolism. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Role of Cyclooxygenase-2 in Models of Epilepsy and Traumatic Brain Injury : Effects of Selective Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors

    Författare :Tina Kunz; Tadeusz Wieloch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Controlled cortical contusion injury; fluid percussion injury; limbic seizures; nuclear factor-kappa B; prostaglandin metabolism; TUNEL staining; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) catalyses prostaglandin synthesis from arachidonic acid during inflammation. COX-2 is expressed in the normal brain and is induced in neurological disorders. There is evidence that COX-2 is involved in secondary events leading to cell death in the brain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors and knee prosthesis surgery

    Författare :Andreas Meunier; Lars Good; Per Aspenberg; Tore Dalén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents; administration dosage; Arthroplasty; knee replacement; Surgical blood loss; Surgery; Cyclooxygenase inhibitors; Cyclooxygenase inhibitors; Fracture healing; Isoxazoles; Postoperative pain; Pyrazoles; Sulfonamides; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Adverse effects of cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors on bone healing have previously been demonstrated in diaphyseal fracture models in animals. In spite of that, they are widely used as postoperative analgesics in orthopaedic surgery. After joint replacement, a bone repair process starts at the interface between bone and cement. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs in Cyclooxygenases 1 and 2 : Binding modes and mechanisms from computational methods and free energy calculations

    Författare :Yasmin Shamsudin Khan; Johan Åqvist; Hugo Gutiérrez de Terán; Xavier Barril; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; molecular dynamics simulations; binding free energy; molecular docking; cyclooxygenase; non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; free energy perturbation; potentials of mean force;

    Sammanfattning : Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are one of the most commonly used classes of drugs. They target the cyclooxygenases (COX) 1 and 2 to reduce the physiological responses of pain, fever, and inflammation. Due to their role in inducing angiogenesis, COX proteins have also been identified as targets in cancer therapies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Influence of leukotriene D4 and cyclooxygenase-2 on cell survival

    Författare :Katarina Wikström; Malmö Experimentell patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pathological anatomy; Patologi allmän ; General pathology; colorectal cancer; inflammation; apoptosis; LTD4; COX-2; patologisk anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : The pro-inflammatory effect of leukotrienes is an important element in the pathogenesis of multiple disorders, including asthma and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). A serious concern for IBD patients is the increased risk of developing colorectal cancer and since there seems to be a general connection between inflammation and cancer we hypothesised that LTD4 induced signalling events could be involved in increasing the tumourgenic potential of cells.
