1. Untangling Cortico-Striatal Circuitry and its Role in Health and Disease - A computational investigation
Sammanfattning : The basal ganglia (BG) play a critical role in a variety of regular motor and cognitive functions. Many brain diseases, such as Parkinson’s diseases, Huntington’s disease and dyskinesia, are directly related to malfunctions of the BG nuclei. LÄS MER
2. The role of cortico-basal ganglia systems in the construction of movement: Action selection and sequencing
Sammanfattning : The cortico-basal ganglia system is instrumental in the construction of movement, through its involvement in aspects such as action selection, initiation/termination and sequencing, though the precise role of the different structures and how they collaborate on a network level to allow us to fluidly change from one behavior to another has long proven to be elusive. We have here recorded neuronal activity throughout the cortico-basal ganglia circuit in rats, in a series of projects in order to understand more about how some of these functions are controlled. 3. Modeling Biochemical Network Involved in Striatal Dopamine Signaling
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I studied the molecular integration of reward-learning related neuromodulatory inputs by striatal medium-sized projection neurons (MSNs) using mass-action kinetic modeling. It is known that, in reward learning, an unexpected reward results in transient elevation in dopamine (peak) whereas omission of an expected reward leads to transient dopamine decrease (dip). 4. On striatum in silico
Sammanfattning : The basal ganglia are a collection of subcortical nuclei involved in movement and action selection. The striatum is the main input nucleus with extensive projections from the cortex and thalamus, and dopaminergic projections from SNc and VTA. LÄS MER
5. Organization of brain circuits that control motivated behaviors
Sammanfattning : Eudemonia (Greek: εὐδαιμονία) is an anthropocentric term describing the absolute well-being in the Aristotelian ethics, along with the terms “arête” (virtue) and “phronesis” (wisdom from an ethical and practical point of view). Arête and virtue will guide ones decisions to promote future eudemonia and ultimately survival. LÄS MER
