1. Atmospheric corrosion of zinc-aluminum and copper-based alloys in chloride-rich environments : Microstructure, corrosion initiation, patina evolution and metal release
Sammanfattning : Fundamental understanding of atmospheric corrosion mechanisms requires an in-depth understanding on the dynamic interaction between corrosive constituents and metal/alloy surfaces. This doctoral study comprises field and laboratory investigations that assess atmospheric corrosion and metal release processes for two different groups of alloys exposed in chloride-rich environments. 2. Nanocomposite films for corrosion protection
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes technical and scientific aspects of new types of composite films/coatings for corrosion protection of carbon steel, composite films with nanometer thickness consisting of mussel adhesive protein (Mefp‐1) and ceria nanoparticles, and polymeric composite coatings with micrometre thickness consisting of conducting polymer and ceria nanoparticles in a UV‐curing polyester acrylate (PEA) resin. The influence of microstructure on corrosion behaviour was studied for a Fe‐Cr‐V‐N alloy containing micro‐sized nitrides with different chemical composition spread in martensitic alloy matrix. 3. Influence of carbides and nitrides on corrosion initiation of advanced alloys : A local probing study
Sammanfattning : Advanced alloys often present precipitated carbides and nitrides in their microstructure following exposure to elevated temperatures. These secondary phases are usually undesirable, because potentially deleterious for the corrosion and mechanical performances of the material. LÄS MER
4. Nanoscale studies of the atmospheric corrosion of copper protected by ultrathin organic films
Sammanfattning : Copper (Cu) has been utilised by humans for millenniums and has become an indispensable metal in modern industry and in our infrastructure. However, corrosion, as a natural process for metallic materials, takes place on copper surfaces in most environments. LÄS MER
5. High temperature corrosion of low-alloyed and stainless steels: mechanistic study of chlorine-induced corrosion
Sammanfattning : The global demand on power generation is constantly increasing and so far, also its environmental impact. The environmental impact could primarily be directed to the power generation being based on fossil fuels, giving a net increase of CO2 to the atmosphere when combusted. LÄS MER
