  1. 1. Foraging behaviour in piscivorous fish: mechanisms and patterns

    Författare :Håkan Turesson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; marine biology; Hydrobiology; piscivory; consumption rate; confusion effect; capture success; predation; encounter rate; prey choice;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanistic understanding of piscivore foraging at the individual level is important in order to understand and make predictions of piscivore effects at population and community levels. To understand the mechanisms affecting selection and consumption rates each step in the foraging cycle (search, encounter, active choice, attack, capture, ingestion, digestion) should be studied. 2. 2. Acute Confusional State in Elderly Patients with Hip Fracture. Identification of risk factors and intervention using a prehospital and perioperative management program

    Författare :Karin Björkman Björkelund; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; postoperative confusion; mortality; pain; fasting; hypoxemia; complications; ASA; Anemia; transfusion.; anesthesia;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about underlying causes and perioperative risk factors of Acute Confusional State (ACS) in elderly patients with hip fracture and to investigate the effect of a multi-factorial intervention program in order to decrease the number of patients who develop ACS. The aim in paper I was to describe elderly patients with hip fracture on the basis of the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ ASA classification system and to identify preoperative risk factors in relation to the postoperative outcome measured up to 4-months after surgery. 3. 3. Clonidine in paediatric anaesthesia : pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic aspects

    Författare :Henrik T G Bergendahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alpha-2 adreoceptor agonists; anaesthesia; analgesia; bioavailability; clonidine; confusion; dose response; epidural; haemodynamics; intubation tracheal; midazolam; neuropeptide Y; paediatric; pharmacokinetic; postoperative; postoperative vomiting; premedication; sedation; shivering; variability.;

    Sammanfattning : Clonidine is a mixed alpha-2/alpha-1 adrenoceptor agonist. It reduces sympathetic and increases parasympathetic tone which results in a lowering of the baseline blood pressure and heart rate. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Unwanted wanted sounds : Perception of sounds from water structures in urban soundscapes

    Författare :Maria Rådsten Ekman; Mats E Nilsson; Catherine Lavandier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Perception; psychoacoustics; soundscape; water-sound; psykologi; Psychology;

    Sammanfattning : Water structures, for example, fountains, are common design elements in urban open public spaces. Their popularity is probably explained by their visual attractiveness. Less is known about how the sounds of water struc-tures influence the urban soundscape. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Physical restraint use and falls in institutional care of old people : effects of a restraint minimization program

    Författare :Tony Pellfolk; Karlsson Stig; Knut Engedal; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical restraints; falls; dementia; care of the elderly; risk factors; work environment; restraint minimization education program; staff knowledge and attitude; and quality of care.; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Physical restraint use and falls are common in institutional care of old people and various attempts have been made to reduce their occurrence. Falls and concomitant injuries are a major problem due to their negative effect on morbidity and mortality. LÄS MER
