  1. 21. Evaluation of Respiratory Mechanics by Flow Signal Analysis : With Emphasis on Detecting Partial Endotracheal Tube Obstruction During Mechanical Ventilation

    Författare :Rafael Kawati; Michael Lichtwarck-Aschoff; Ulf Sjöstrand; Anders Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology and intensive care; Complication: obstructed endotracheal tube; Equipment:endotracheal tube; Heart: cardiogenic oscillation; Respiratory mechanics: respiratory mechanics; Ventilation: controlled mechanical; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Evaluating respiratory mechanics during dynamic conditions without interrupting ongoing ventilation and flow, adds to the information obtained from the mechanics derived from static (= no flow) conditions, i.e., the flow signal has the potential to provide information on the properties of the respiratory system (including the tubing system). 2. 22. Radiation therapy of upper gastrointestinal cancers with scanned proton beams : A treatment planning study

    Författare :Gracinda Mondlane; Albert Siegbahn; Michael Gubanski; Iuliana Toma-Dasu; Crister Ceberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Treatment planning; gastric cancer; liver metastases; photon beam therapy; proton beam therapy; dosimetric comparison; normal tissue complication probability; risk of radiation-induced secondary cancer; patient selection; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Proton beam therapy (PBT), using scanned beams, is an emerging modality used for the treatment of cancer. The clinical advantages of PBT, compared to commonly used photon beam therapy, have been demonstrated in different studies. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Effect of Home Based Life Saving Skills education on knowledge of obstetric danger signs, birth preparedness, utilization of skilled care and male involvement : A Community-based intervention study in rural Tanzania

    Författare :Furaha August; Elisabeth Darj; Pia Axemo; Albrecht Jahn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness; Obstetric danger signs; Male Involvement; Community Health Workers; Maternal Health; Rural; Tanzania;

    Sammanfattning : Use of skilled care during antenatal visits and delivery is recommended to address the burden of maternal mortality. However there are few facility deliveries and insufficient knowledge of danger signs, especially in rural Tanzania. LÄS MER

  4. 24. The impact of tobacco use on postoperative complications

    Författare :David Lindström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Smoking; snus; obesity; postoperative complication; appendectomy; hernia; smoking cessation; cohort studies; randomised controlled trials.;

    Sammanfattning : In almost every field of surgery, there have been several reports of an increased frequency of wound healing complications among smokers. There is also evidence of a dramatic drop in the complication rate if a smoking cessation intervention is started 6 8 weeks ahead of orthopaedic surgery. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Outcome after surgery of congenital cataract

    Författare :Anna Lundvall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Congenital cataract; cataract surgery; intraocular lens; infant; paediatric; rabbit; complication; glaucoma; after-cataract; posterior capsule opacification.;

    Sammanfattning : The visual outcome in infants undergoing surgery for bilateral congenital cataract has improved considerably because of improved surgical methods and the realisation that early detection, allowing early cataract extraction and immediate optical correction, can prevent otherwise irreversible deprivation amblyopia. The management of unilateral congenital cataract is still of the most difficult problems in paediatric ophtalmology. LÄS MER
