1. lntramuscular pressure in the lower leg - Studies on chronic exertional compartment syndrome and effects of external compression
Sammanfattning : This thesis on intramuscular pressure (IMP) in the lower leg is concerned with two topics. The first of these is external compression; more specifically, the effect of compression stockings (CS). There are conflicting data on how compression garments such as CS affect IMP and muscle function during activity. LÄS MER
2. Chronic exertional compartment syndrome of the lower leg : a novel diagnosis in diabetes mellitus: a clinical and morphological study of diabetic and non-diabetic patients
Sammanfattning : Chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) of the lower leg, defined as a condition with exercise-induced pain due to increased intramuscular pressure (IMP), has previously mainly been described in running athletes, and etiologic factors are poorly described. CECS has not been reported to occur together with other diseases and information about consequences on muscles morphology after treatment with fasciotomy is largely unknown. LÄS MER
3. Pulse-Synchronous Intramuscular Pressure Oscillations
Sammanfattning : Background Intramuscular pressure (IMP) is measured in studies of tissue nutrition and in the diagnosis of compartment syndromes. Patients with compartment syndromes have an elevated IMP due to increased volume in a muscle compartment. LÄS MER
4. Abdominal compartment syndrome and colonic ischaemia after abdominal aortic aneurysm repair in the endovascular era
Sammanfattning : Abdominal Compartment Syndrome (ACS) and colonic ischaemia (CI) are serious and potentially lethal complications after open (OSR) and endovascular repair (EVAR) of ruptured (rAAA) and intact (iAAA) abdominal aortic aneurysms. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the incidence, outcome, and risk factors associated with ACS (Papers I-III) and to evaluate extraluminal colonic tonometry for postoperative surveillance of colonic perfusion (Paper IV). 5. Methods in Diagnosing Chronic Anterior Compartment Syndrome. A clinical study in patients with exercise induced leg pain
Sammanfattning : Chronic anterior compartment syndrome (CACS) is a painful condition within one or more muscle compartment(s) in the lower leg. It impedes blood flow and muscular function due to elevated intramuscular pressure. The diagnostic criteria are the subject of debate. LÄS MER
