  1. 1. Latent variable models for longitudinal twin data

    Författare :Annica Dominicus; Juni Palmgren; Nancy L. Pedersen; Michael G. Kenward; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Latent variable models; twin models; variance components; change point models; non-ignorable nonresponse; likelihood ratio tests; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik;

    Sammanfattning : Longitudinal twin data provide important information for exploring sources of variation in human traits. In statistical models for twin data, unobserved genetic and environmental factors influencing the trait are represented by latent variables. In this way, trait variation can be decomposed into genetic and environmental components. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Reconstructing Marriage in a Changing Legal and Societal Landscape : Challenges of New Cohabitation Models in Sweden

    Författare :Caroline Sörgjerd; Maarit Jänterä-Jareborg; Anna Singer; Eva Ryrstedt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Marriage; legal development; the Code of 1734; the Marriage Code of 1920; the Marriage Code of 1987; same-sex marriage; registered partnership; cohabitation without marriage; cohabitees act; equality; discrimination; human rights; EU law; the Netherlands; Spain; wellfare state; cohabitation models; change; Äktenskap; rättsutveckling; 1734 års lag; giftermålsbalken; äktenskapsbalken; samkönat äktenskap; registrerat partnerskap; samboende utom äktenskap; sambor; sambolag; jämställdhet; diskriminering; mänskliga rättigheter; EU rätt; Nederländerna; Spanien; välfärdsstat; samlevnadsformer; förändring; LAW JURISPRUDENCE; RÄTTSVETENSKAP JURIDIK;

    Sammanfattning : What is marriage? From a legal point of view, marriage is a contract which establishes a civil status. However, marriage is no ordinary contract. There is also a symbolic dimension to marriage, which cannot easily be understood from a strictly legal perspective. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Science versus School-science : Multiple models in genetics - The depiction of gene function in upper secondary textbooks and its influence on students' understanding

    Författare :Niklas Gericke; Mariana Hagberg; Doris Jorde; Michael Reiss; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; conceptual change; genetics; history of science; models; nature of science; students’ understanding; textbooks; upper secondary school; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I describe a study of how the science of genetics is transformed into school science in upper secondary level textbooks and the impact that this transformation has on students’ understanding. The didactic challenge that we face is to decide which science from the academic disciplines we should bring into schools. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Change Point Detection with Applications to Wireless Sensor Networks

    Författare :Markus Eriksson; Tomas Olofsson; Idris Eckley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Change Point Detection; Signal Processing; Dynamic Programming; Electrical Engineering with specialization in Signal Processing; Elektroteknik med inriktning mot signalbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis work we develop a new algorithm for detecting joint changes in statistical behavior of multiple, simultaneously recorded, signals. Such signal analysis is commonly known as multivariate change point (CP) detection (CPD) and is of interest in many scientific and engineering applications. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Aiming for change : intentional communities and ideology in function

    Författare :Josefin Larsson; Anna Jónasdóttir; Ingemar Elander; Lucy Sargisson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Statsvetenskap; intentional communities; ideology; utopia; communalism; utopian studies; communal studies; politikvetenskap; Political science; Statsvetenskap; Political Science; Statskunskap;

    Sammanfattning : The question raised in this thesis is whether there is a common ideology to be found among intentional communities, and if so, what does characterise such an ideology and how does it relate to the traditional –isms? The study takes its theoretical point of departure in a functional concept of ideology, along with six dimensions of social critique: the political, the politico-economic, the politico-sexual, the psychosocial, the religious and spiritual, and the environmental. The findings of this study indicate that intentional communities have a common ideological core. LÄS MER
