1. Latent variable models for longitudinal twin data
Sammanfattning : Longitudinal twin data provide important information for exploring sources of variation in human traits. In statistical models for twin data, unobserved genetic and environmental factors influencing the trait are represented by latent variables. In this way, trait variation can be decomposed into genetic and environmental components. LÄS MER
2. Reconstructing Marriage in a Changing Legal and Societal Landscape : Challenges of New Cohabitation Models in Sweden
Sammanfattning : What is marriage? From a legal point of view, marriage is a contract which establishes a civil status. However, marriage is no ordinary contract. There is also a symbolic dimension to marriage, which cannot easily be understood from a strictly legal perspective. LÄS MER
3. Science versus School-science : Multiple models in genetics - The depiction of gene function in upper secondary textbooks and its influence on students' understanding
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I describe a study of how the science of genetics is transformed into school science in upper secondary level textbooks and the impact that this transformation has on students’ understanding. The didactic challenge that we face is to decide which science from the academic disciplines we should bring into schools. LÄS MER
4. Change Point Detection with Applications to Wireless Sensor Networks
Sammanfattning : In this thesis work we develop a new algorithm for detecting joint changes in statistical behavior of multiple, simultaneously recorded, signals. Such signal analysis is commonly known as multivariate change point (CP) detection (CPD) and is of interest in many scientific and engineering applications. LÄS MER
5. Aiming for change : intentional communities and ideology in function
Sammanfattning : The question raised in this thesis is whether there is a common ideology to be found among intentional communities, and if so, what does characterise such an ideology and how does it relate to the traditional –isms? The study takes its theoretical point of departure in a functional concept of ideology, along with six dimensions of social critique: the political, the politico-economic, the politico-sexual, the psychosocial, the religious and spiritual, and the environmental. The findings of this study indicate that intentional communities have a common ideological core. LÄS MER
