21. Feedback control of cerebellar learning
Sammanfattning : The ability to anticipate future events and to modify erroneous anticipatory actions is crucial for the survival of any organism. Both theoretical and empirical lines of evidence implicate the cerebellum in this ability. It is often suggested that the cerebellum acquires “expectations” or “internal models”. LÄS MER
22. Application of imaging TOF-SIMS in cell and tissue research
Sammanfattning : This thesis is aimed at extending the use of TOF-SIMS (time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry) as an analytical tool in cell and tissue research. TOF-SIMS is a relatively new method that allows analysis of the chemical composition of sample surfaces. LÄS MER
23. Cholinergic receptors in human prenetal brain : presence, distribution and influence of nicotine and ethanol
Sammanfattning : Events early in life, including exposure to various compounds, may cause disturbances in brain development. Both maternal smoking and alcohol drinking during pregnancy can induce preand postnatal death, cognitive and neurobehavioral disturbances. LÄS MER
24. Brain Plasticity and Upper Limb Function After Stroke: Some Implications for Rehabilitation
Sammanfattning : Neuroimaging and neurophysiology techniques were used to study some aspects of cortical sensory and motor system reorganisation in patients in the chronic phase after stroke. Using Diffusion Tensor Imaging, we found that the degree of white matter integrity of the corticofugal tracts (CFT) was positively related to grip strength. LÄS MER
25. Neuromotor development and brain structure in children born extremely preterm
Sammanfattning : Children born extremely preterm (EPT) are increasingly surviving but it is well known that they face a high risk of brain injury and neurodevelopmental impairments. The overall aim of the studies included in this thesis was to investigate the relationships between brain alterations and neurodevelopment, with specific focus on neuromotor outcomes in children born EPT.
