  1. 1. Micro-scale Platforms for Investigations of Biological Structures

    Författare :Anna Kim; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microfabrication; non-ionic surfactants; single-cell viability; hydrodynamic flow confinement; cell-to-cell connections; SU-8; Teflon AF; cell protrusions; free-standing probes; millimeter-waves;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of innovative micro-scale platforms as a means to address the current challenges within the field of cell biology, and to provide an interface between miniaturized analytical technology and experimental systems for the life sciences. The work includes an analytical platform for rapid assessment of the viability of adherent single cells; a surface patterning strategy for investigations of cell-to-cell communication via protrusions; a versatile microfluidic probe in SU-8 hard-polymer, and a microfabricated millimeter-wave measurement system for the identification and characterization of niosome (non-ionic surfactant vesicle) constituents, which is operated in a label-free, non-invasive manner. 2. 2. Single cell analysis of iPS derived neural stem cells and neurons

    Författare :Matti Lam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In vitro derived neural stem cells can be used to model events of neurogenesis and neurodevelopmental dysfunction. Formation of stable neural stem cell environments relies on cellular components to stabilize cell-to-cell connections. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterization of New Players in Planar Polarity Establishment in Arabidopsis

    Författare :Stefano Pietra; Markus Grebe; Niko Geldner; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SABRE; planar polarity; CLASP; cell division orientation; microtubule cytoskeleton; actin; AIP1; patterning; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coordinated polarity and differentiation of cells in the plane of a tissue layer are essential to the development of multicellular organisms. Arabidopsis thaliana root hairs and trichomes provide model systems to study the pathways that control planar polarity and cell fate specification in plants. LÄS MER
