  1. 1. Development of robust cyanobacterial strains for biotechnological applications : Stress tolerance and cell-specific expression in heterocyst-forming cyanobacteria

    Författare :Xin Li; Karin Stensjö; Yagut Allahverdiyeva-Rinne; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; Dps protein; heterocysts; Nostoc; oxidative stress; cell specific promoter; ROS tolerance; synthetic biology tools transcriptional regulation.; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Synthetic biology tools can be used to exploit potential applications of cyanobacteria, promising photosynthetic hosts for production of fuels and chemicals. Specific genetic tools are needed for the development of robust cyanobacterial strains for bioengineering. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cytomegalovirus Infection in Immunocompetent and Renal Transplant Patients : Clinical Aspects and T-cell Specific Immunity

    Författare :Fredrik Sund; Britt-Marie Eriksson; Olle Korsgren; Halvor Rollag; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytomegalovirus; renal transplantation; cellular immunity; valacyclovir; mismatched; prophylaxis; tetramer; CD4 T cells; CD8 T cells; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a β-herpesvirus that, after primary infection, establishes a life-long persistence in the human host. Up to 90% of humans are infected with CMV, that is kept under control by CMV-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. In patients with an impaired cellular immunity, however, CMV infections can be life-threatening. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cell-Specific Ca2+ Response in Pancreatic ß-cells

    Författare :Natalia Gustavsson; Per Lindström; Peter Bergsten; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heterogeneity; individual ß-cells; islets of Langerhans; cytoplasmic calcium; repetitive glucose stimulation; lag-time; cell-specific; glyceraldehyde; ketoisocaproic acid; tolbutamide; mitochondrial metabolism; Histology; Histologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreatic ß-cells are heterogeneous in their secretory responsiveness, glucose sensitivity and metabolic rate. A diminished and delayed first-phase insulin release is an early sign of failing ß-cells in diabetes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Specific genetic modifications in the CNS - Cell specific expression and gene specific regulation

    Författare :Erika Elgstrand; CNS Genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease Gene therapy Cell specific GAD67 Rat Striatum Substantia nigra pars reticulata;

    Sammanfattning : Gene therapy is a promising therapeutic tool for many diseases of the CNS. Lentiviral vectors are particularly attractive since this vector type can transduce both dividing and non-dividing cells, have a relatively large cloning capacity, can sustain long-term transgene expression and have low immunogenicity. 5. 5. Serglycin-dependent mast cell-specific proteases and their potential interactions with Giardia intestinalis

    Författare :Zhiqiang Li; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells are located in mucosal and connective tissues throughout the body where they play important roles in immune reactions towards infections. Mast cell deficiency results in failure of clearance of the non-invasive intestinal protozoan parasite Giardia intestinalis in mice, but the mast cell-driven mechanisms remain poorly understood.
