21. Signalling mechanisms in B cell differentiation: Studies on specific human immune response in vitro
Sammanfattning : We need to understand the major signalling events in human B cell differentiation in order to be able to regulate the generation of human antigen specific antibodies. This study has focused on the signalling mechanisms involved in generation of germinal centre reaction and secretion of specific antibodies by human B cells, using different in vitro immunisation technologies. 22. Structure and energetics of molecular recognition in galectin-3-ligand interactions
Sammanfattning : Molecular recognition is the key aspect of any cellular and biological function. Two or more molecules interacting with each other cause the effects that drives various basic functions that are fundamental to cells. Be these protein-protein, protein-nucleic acid or protein-ligand interactions, they all play important roles in a cell. LÄS MER
23. Structural studies of MHC class 1 complexes : implications for NK- and T-cell recognition
Sammanfattning : The cell-cell recognition events and the functional characteristics of the cell surface receptors that govern the responses of NK- and T-cells are central to molecular immunology. This thesis addresses the structural basis of such molecular recognition, more specifically the interaction between peptides and MHC class I molecules, as well as the interaction between such complexes and the inhibitory Ly49 receptors of NK cells or triggering antigen specific receptors of T-cells (TCR). 24. Glycosylation in cancer and infection : the role of sialic acid
Sammanfattning : Sialic acids (SA), a group of nine-carbon backbone monosaccharides are abundantly expressed in vertebrates. They are usually linked to the terminal of glycan chains and play crucial roles in many biological processes, including cell adhesion, cell-cell interactions, immune modulation, cancer cell migration and invasion, as well as viral infections. 25. Single Cell Investigations of the Functional Heterogeneity Within Immune Cell Populations : a Microchip-based Study
Sammanfattning : Immune cell populations are constantly divided into smaller and smaller subsets defined by newly emerging cellular markers. However, there is a growing awareness of the functional heterogeneities in between cells even within small populations, in addition to the heterogeneity over time. LÄS MER
