1. Pathogen entry mechanisms and endocytic responses to plasma membrane damage
Sammanfattning : Endocytosis is a fundamental cellular process by which cells transport material from the outside to the inside of the cell through the formation of membrane invaginations that bud off from the plasma membrane. This process is important for nutrient uptake, regulating cell surface receptors and the overall plasma membrane composition. LÄS MER
2. Cell Contacts and Airway Epithelial Damage in Asthma
Sammanfattning : Airway epithelial damage is commonly found in asthma patients. Epithelial damage was investigated with special reference to contacts between epithelial cells.Eosinophils, common in allergic asthma, secrete cationic proteins, particularly major basic protein (MBP). LÄS MER
3. Non-canonical ATG8 conjugation in ESCRT-driven membrane remodeling processes
Sammanfattning : ATG8 family proteins have the unique ability to conjugate to membrane lipids. Initially identified as a hallmark of autophagy, ATG8 lipidation is emerging as an important regulator of a growing list of non-degradative cellular functions. LÄS MER
4. Towards Pharmacological Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis
Sammanfattning : S-nitrosogluthatione is an endogenous substance, present at decreased levels in the lungs of CF patients and was recently found to induce mature CFTR in airway epithelial CF cell lines. We show that S-nitrosoglutathione in physiological concentrations increases the presence of ΔF508 CFTR in the cell membrane and induces cAMP dependent chloride transport in cystic fibrosis airway epithelial cells. 5. Imaging the molecular pathways of neurodegeneration : New pathologies of SCA7
Sammanfattning : Spinocerebellar Ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is a genetic neurodegenerative disease with lethal outcome that affects the cerebellum and retina of patients. This thesis focuses on characterising molecular pathological pathways that cause toxicity and cell death in SCA7. LÄS MER
