1. Molecular Insight into Ion-Specific Interactions : Vibrational Sum Frequency Study of the Carboxylic Acid Moiety
Sammanfattning : Ion specific effects at charged interfaces find numerous applications in colloidal sciences and play a vital role in many biological processes. Despite having been studied for over a century, starting with the work of F. Hofmeister in the 1880s, a comprehensive molecular understanding remains elusive. LÄS MER

3. Quantitative in situ analysis of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper induced by carboxylic acids
Sammanfattning : The interaction of carboxylic acids with copper is a phenomenon found both outdoors and, more commonly, indoors. The influence on copper of some carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, and butyric) have so far been studied at concentrations levels at least three or four orders of magnitude higher than actual indoor conditions (< 20 ppb, volume parts per billion), and with only limited emphasis on any mechanistic approach. 4. Aqueous surface chemistry of Goethite : adsorption and desorption reactions involving phosphate and carboxylic acids
Sammanfattning : Phosphorus is an essential element for all known forms of life. In the form of phosphate, this nutrient is retained in soils and sediments by sorption on mineral particles, clays and other soil constituents. LÄS MER
5. Fenton Pre-treatment of a Birch Kraft Pulp for MFC preparation
Sammanfattning : The potential to use acidic hydrogen peroxide in the presence of ferrous ions (Fenton’s reagent) as a pre-treatment when producing microfibrillar cellulose (MFC) from a fully bleached birch (Betula verucosa) kraft pulp was investigated and the properties of the produced MFC was compared to the properties of a MFC produced with enzymatic pre-treatment with a monocomponent endoglucanase (FiberCare® R). The mechanical treatment to MFC was performed in a laboratory colloid mill or in a pilot high-pressure homogeniser and the pre-treated pulps as well as the produced MFCs were chemically and morphologically characterised.
