1. Prognostic markers in acute myeloid leukemia : A candidate gene approach
Sammanfattning : The standard treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) consists of induction chemotherapy, most commonly daunorubicin together with the nucleoside analogue cytarabine (Ara-C), followed by consolidation chemotherapy and in selected cases allogenic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT). Despite a high initial response rate, a considerable proportion of all AML cases eventually suffer from relapse and the five-year overall survival rate in patients >60 years is only around 15%. 2. Genetic Analysis of Quantitative Traits Using Domestic Animals : A Candidate Gene and Genome Scanning Approach
Sammanfattning : Domestication has led to genetic changes that affect quantitative traits in farm animals. Both candidate gene analysis using association tests and genome scans based on linkage analysis have been performed to understand the molecular basis underlying quantitative genetic variation in horses, pigs and chickens. 3. Genetic studies on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus : A fine mapping and candidate gene approach
Sammanfattning : Linkage in the 2q37 region was evaluated using microsatellite markers in multi-case families from Sweden, Iceland and Norway. Both the two-point and the multipoint linkage analysis show highly significant LOD scores (Z=4.51 and 6.03, respectively). LÄS MER
4. Hypospadias : gene mapping and candidate gene studied
Sammanfattning : Hypospadias is a common congenital malformation in boys, characterized by incomplete fusion of the urethral folds, abnormal opening of urethra and different degrees of curvature of the penis. In Sweden, the incidence of hypospadias is 1.14 per 300 male live-births according to the annual Swedish Malformation Registry. LÄS MER
5. Adipose tissue gene expression & candidate genes for obesity
Sammanfattning : Obesity results from an interaction between genetic and environmental factors and is a growing health problem associated with development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This thesis has focused on investigating the genetic contribution in obesity and insulin resistance by both candidate and global gene approaches with focus on the adipose tissue. LÄS MER
