1. Seagrasses and their epiphytes : Characterization of abundance and productivity in tropical seagrass beds
Sammanfattning : Seagrass beds cover large intertidal and subtidal areas in coastal zones around the world and they are subjected to a wide variety of anthropogenic influences, such as nutrient enrichment due to sewage seepage. This study was undertaken to address specific questions focusing on whether near shore tropical seagrasses that receive a constant influx of groundwater nutrient inputs, would exhibit a higher productivity and to what extent epiphytic algae reflect the impacts of nutrient inputs. 2. Voltage sensitivity of dopamine D2-like receptors
Sammanfattning : G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) mediate a multitude of responses serving hormonal, neurotransmitter, and sensory functions. These receptors are important drug targets; in fact, about 27 % of prescribed drugs are GPCR ligands. LÄS MER
3. Numerical modeling of groundwater and air flow between compacted bentonite and fractured crystalline rock
Sammanfattning : The geological repository for final storage of spent nuclear fuel, envisioned by the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Management Company (SKB), relies on several barriers: copper canisters deposited in holes in the floor of underground tunnels in deep bedrock, embedded in a buffer of compacted bentonite. The initially unsaturated buffer would take up water from the surrounding rock mass and swell to seal any potential gap. LÄS MER
4. Enzyme Immunoassay in Combination with Liquid Chromatography for Sensitive and Selective Determination of Drugs in Biosamples
Sammanfattning : Two different sensitive microtitre-plate based enzyme immunoassays were developed and evaluated for determination of the model drug compound, budesonide, in blood plasma. In the first approach, high sensitivity was obtained by using amperometric detection in a flow injection system for determination of the enzyme product p-aminophenol. LÄS MER
5. Characterization of Biomolecular Interactions Using a Multivariate Approach
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a novel bioinformatic methodology denoted the bio-chemometric approach. The methodology is designed for generation of detailed descriptions and predictions of biomolecular interactions. It is based on multivariate analysis of the sensitivity of a biomolecular interaction to multiple minor changes in the experimental conditions. LÄS MER
