  1. 1. Meaning in the Making: Introducing a Hermeneutic Perspective on the Contribution of Design Practice to Innovation

    Författare :Marcus Jahnke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; design; innovation; design management; hermeneutics; meaning- making; design thinking; design practice;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years interest has grown in how design can contribute to innovation in business and society, such as through the management concept of design thinking. However, up-close studies on design’s contribution to innovation are still scarce. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Agency and Artefacts : A cognitive semiotic exploration of design

    Författare :Juan Mendoza-Collazos; Kognitiv semiotik; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Agency; enhanced agency; agency hierarchy; derived agency; material agency; intentionality; prior intentions; intentions in action; pictorial representations; artefacts; tool-making; design theory; design semiotics; design research; phenomenology; cognitive semiotics; agentive semiotics; semiotic hierarchy; 4E cognition; bio-cultural evolution; philosophy of design; philosophy of technology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the role of artefacts in relation to human agency and design within a cognitive semiotics framework. It deals with questions such as What is agency? What are artefacts and how does agency relate to them? What kind of intentions are involved in the activity of designing? What is human-specific with respect to agency and design? How can the origins and evolution of design be explained? Addressing these questions, the thesis proposes a layered model of agency for explaining the relations between different grades of agentive complexity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. A Material Framework for Product Design

    Författare :Charlotte Asbjørn Sörensen; Valentina Rognoli; Lund University; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; experiential learning; material practices in design; pedagogic framework; higher education; product design; material selection; sensorial characteristics; technical properties; material criteria activities; case study;

    Sammanfattning : A new paradigm is slowly making its way into society, affecting our material practice as designers. Materials selection in design and product development has for a long time been dominated by a purely technical approach, mainly focusing on properties and performance. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Surface patterns, spatiality and pattern relations in textile design

    Författare :Tonje Kristensen Johnstone; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Surface patterns; textile design; spatiality; spatial definers; design variables; pattern relations; conceptual spatial determinations; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis focuses on surface patterns, spatiality, and pattern relations in textile design, and aims to explore surface patterns as spatial definers and what they mean in the context of surface patterns. A secondary focus relates to applying conceptual spatial determinations as alternative design variables in design processes, and exploring how these could be used to define and analyse pattern relations. 5. 5. Toward Inclusive Pharmaceutical Packaging : An Innovation and Design Process Perspective

    Författare :Giana Lorenzini; Förpackningslogistik; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Inclusive Design; Packaging Design; Packaging Innovation; Pharmaceutical Packaging;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmaceutical packaging has an increasing importance in aging societies, wherepeople depend on medicines for their own care and well-being. Previous research shows that pharmaceutical packaging is a source of uncertainties, confusion, and daily struggles. LÄS MER
