1. Alkaliphilic Bacillus species and an alkaline active lipolytic enzyme
Sammanfattning : The Great Rift Valley running through Eastern Africa contains a large number of soda lakes. These unique lakes constitute among the most stable alkaline environments with a dense and varied population of microorganisms. Such microorganisms are invariable alkaliphiles and are considered to be a promising source of enzymes with unique features. LÄS MER
2. Characterization of Aeromonas, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Bacillus and Lactobacillus spontaneously growing to high numbers in milk, minced meat, fish or cheese
Sammanfattning : The spoilage flora of refrigerated raw and pasteurized milk was classified and identified by numerical phenotypic analysis. Isolations of bacteria were made at a defined spoilage stage, when the total aerobic count was 106-107 cfu per ml. The secondary flora of ripened Swedish and Norwegian cheeses was investigated by numerical analysis. LÄS MER
3. Bacterial Terminal Oxidases. Studies in Bacillus subtilis
Sammanfattning : The final step in aerobic respiratory pathways is catalyzed by terminal oxidases. Bacteria generally have two or more terminal oxidases. Aerobically grown Bacillus subtilis synthesize three terminal oxidases: one cytochrome c oxidase, cytochrome caa3 and two quinol oxidases, cytochrome aa3 and cytochrome bd. LÄS MER
4. Prokaryotic Arsenic Resistance - Studies in Bacillus subtilis
Sammanfattning : Arsenic is a toxic metalloid which is found all over the globe. Due to its toxicity and wide abundance, all living organisms have evolved intrinsic arsenic resistance systems. In this study, three proteins that provide arsenic resistance in the Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis have been investigated. LÄS MER
5. Membrane-bound thiol-disulfide oxidoreductases in Bacillus subtilis
Sammanfattning : Disulfide bonds in proteins are found between cysteine residues and are usually important for either function or stability of proteins. Thiol-disulfide oxidoreductases catalyse the formation or breakage of disulfide bonds in proteins. LÄS MER
