  1. 1. Molecular Mechanisms of Reward and Aversion

    Författare :Anna Klawonn; David Engblom; Anders Blomqvist; Paul Kenny; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Motivation; Dopamine; Reward; Aversion; Negative affect; Systemic Inflammation; Drug Addiction; Cytokines; Prostaglandin E2; Melanocortin receptor 4; Acetylcholine; Muscarinic M4 receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Various molecular pathways in the brain shape our understanding of good and bad, as well as our motivation to seek and avoid such stimuli. This work evolves around how systemic inflammation causes aversion; and why general unpleasant states such as sickness, stress, pain and nausea are encoded by our brain as undesirable; and contrary to these questions, how drugs of abuse can subjugate the motivational neurocircuitry of the brain. 2. 2. The subthalamic nucleus in motor and affective functions : An optogenetic in vivo-investigation

    Författare :Adriane Guillaumin; Åsa Wallén-Mackenzie; Konstantinos Meletis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Subthalamic nucleus; optogenetics; basal ganglia; locomotion; Parkinson s disease; aversion; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The basal ganglia form a group of subcortical interconnected nuclei involved in motor, limbic and cognitive functions. According to the classical model of the basal ganglia, two main pathways exert opposing control over movement, one facilitating movement and the other suppressing movement. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Communication in Games and Decision Making under Risk

    Författare :Erik Wengström; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Communication; Repeated Bertrand Games Cooperation; Renegotiation; Experiments; Risk Aversion; Non-cooperative Game Theory; Selection; Loss Aversion; Timing of Uncertainty Resolution;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is divided into two distinct parts. The first part studies communication in games and the second part investigates individual decision making under risk. Chapters 2 – 4, co-authored with Ola Andersson, investigate communication and renegotiation in dynamic games. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Brain Stem Involvement in Immune and Aversive Challenge

    Författare :Jakob Paues; Anders Blomqvist; Finn Hallböök; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipopolysaccharide; Lithium Chloride; anorexia; aversion; parabrachial; brain stem; melanocortin; CGRP; enkephalin; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Activation of the immune system by e.g. bacteria induces the acute-phase-response and sickness behaviour. The latter encompasses among other things fever, lethargy, anorexia and hyperalgesia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A Sequence of Essays on Sequences of Auctions

    Författare :Daniel Bougt; Ola Andersson; Per Hjertstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; declining price anomaly; sequential auctions; train-ticket auctions; ambiguity aversion; risk aversion; non-parametric estimation; experiment; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : Essay I (with Gagan Ghosh and Heng Liu). The existence of declining prices in sequential auctions is a well-documented empirical pattern. Three explanations that can explain the puzzle are bidders being risk averse, loss averse, or ambiguity averse. LÄS MER
