1. Wind and atmospheric stability characteristics over the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : In recent years there has been an increase in offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate wind speed estimates in the marine environment, especially in coastal areas where most wind turbines will be placed. This thesis is focused on the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction play an important role in explaining the wind patterns. LÄS MER
2. Monoterpenes from the boreal coniferous forest : their role in atmospheric chemistry
Sammanfattning : The goal of this work has been to increase our knowledge of the role of the monoteipenes emitted by the boreal coniferous forest in atmospheric chemical processes. To this end, measurements of air concentrations and emission rates have been made in forests of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norwegian spruce (Picea abies) at 4 sites throughout Sweden, during the summers of 1989 and 1990. 3. Mean Wind and Turbulence Conditions in the Boundary Layer above Forests
Sammanfattning : As wind turbines have grown, new installation areas become possible. Placing wind turbines in forested landscapes introduce uncertainties to the wind resource estimation. LÄS MER
4. Improving the understanding of cloud radiative heating
Sammanfattning : Clouds play an essential role in regulating Earth’s radiation budget by reflecting and absorbing energy at different spectra. As they interact with radiation, they can radiatively heat or cool the adjacent atmosphere and the surface. LÄS MER
5. A large-eddy simulation perspective on Arctic airmass transformation and low-level cloud evolution
Sammanfattning : The Arctic is currently warming faster than other regions of the Earth. Many processes and feedbacks contribute to the enhanced warming. Among these are the radiative effects of clouds. LÄS MER
