  1. 1. Wind and atmospheric stability characteristics over the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Xiaoli Guo Larsén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal transition; stable conditions; boundary layer rolls; low level jet; WRF; Baltic Sea; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years there has been an increase in offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate wind speed estimates in the marine environment, especially in coastal areas where most wind turbines will be placed. This thesis is focused on the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction play an important role in explaining the wind patterns. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Monoterpenes from the boreal coniferous forest : their role in atmospheric chemistry

    Författare :Robert Janson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The goal of this work has been to increase our knowledge of the role of the monoteipenes emitted by the boreal coniferous forest in atmospheric chemical processes. To this end, measurements of air concentrations and emission rates have been made in forests of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norwegian spruce (Picea abies) at 4 sites throughout Sweden, during the summers of 1989 and 1990. 3. 3. Mean Wind and Turbulence Conditions in the Boundary Layer above Forests

    Författare :Johan Arnqvist; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Stefan Söderberg; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wind power; Forest; Turbulence; Waves; Spectra; Wind model; Atmospheric stability; Vindkraft; Skog; Turbulens; Vågor; Spektra; Modell; Atmosfärisk stabilitet;

    Sammanfattning : As wind turbines have grown, new installation areas become possible. Placing wind turbines in forested landscapes introduce uncertainties to the wind resource estimation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Improving the understanding of cloud radiative heating

    Författare :Erik Johansson; Abhay Devasthale; Michael Tjernström; Annica M. L. Ekman; Robert Pincus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; radiative effects; upper troposphere-lower stratosphere; atmospheric circulation; remote sensing; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds play an essential role in regulating Earth’s radiation budget by reflecting and absorbing energy at different spectra. As they interact with radiation, they can radiatively heat or cool the adjacent atmosphere and the surface. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A large-eddy simulation perspective on Arctic airmass transformation and low-level cloud evolution

    Författare :Antonios Dimitrelos; Annica Ekman; Caballero Rodrigo; Rune Grand Graversen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; mixed phase clouds; sea ice; Arctic amplification; atmospheric energy transport; CCN; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic is currently warming faster than other regions of the Earth. Many processes and feedbacks contribute to the enhanced warming. Among these are the radiative effects of clouds. LÄS MER
