  1. 1. Measurement and Evaluation of Antioxidant Status and Relation to Oxidative Stress in Humans

    Författare :Cecilia Nälsén; Bengt Vessby; Margareta Öhrvall; Lars Ove Dragsted; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nutrition; antioxidant; antioxidant status; antioxidant capacity; oxidative stress; lipid peroxidation; F2-isoprostanes; dietary factors; vitamin E; n-3 fatty acids; human; Näringslära;

    Sammanfattning : Numerous diseases are associated with reduced antioxidant defence and oxidative stress. The antioxidant defence includes dietary and endogenous antioxidants and involves complex interactions between them. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Diet and Metabolic Risk Factors in Immigrant Women from the Middle East and Swedish-Born Women : A Cross-Sectional Study of Women from Iran, Turkey and Sweden

    Författare :Achraf Daryani; Bengt Vessby; Brita karlström; Per Wändell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Caring sciences; cardiovascular factors; metabolic risk factors; immigrants; Iranian; Turkish; Swedish; Middle East; dietary intake; underreporting; dietary fat; fat sources; antioxidant intake; oxidative stress; inflammation; C-reactive protein; isoprostanes; Vårdvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing number of immigrants in Sweden during the past decades has brought the health of different ethnic groups into focus. Many groups of immigrants in Sweden have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and coronary heart disease (CHD) than a Swedish reference group. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Antioxidant Capacity in Fruit and Vegetables -Cultivar Variation - Storage Conditions - Human Antioxidant Status

    Författare :Jessica Nilsson; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; human plasma antioxidants; Brassica; strawberry; pea; cultivar; ABTS; FRAP; Total antioxidant capacity; TAC; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The health-promoting effects of fruits and vegetables have been extensively discussed during the past decade since epidemiologic studies have shown relations between increased intake of fruit and vegetables and decreased incidences of several chronic diseases. It has been suggested that antioxidants are a main contributors to the observed effects, for example by acting as scavengers of free radicals. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies on antioxidant and lipid lowering effects on human microcirculation

    Författare :Qing Lu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Microcirculation; oxidative stress; antioxidant; smoking. hypercholesterolemia; diabetes; vitamin C; Nacetylcysteine; lipid lowering; capillary blood flow velocity; post reactive hyperemia; endothelial function.;

    Sammanfattning : In previous work from this laboratory, vital microscopy was successfully used to study rnicrocirculatcry effects of hypercholesterolemia in a rabbit model. Hypercholesterolemia caused a dramatic depression of the blood flow velocity in the conjunctiva microvessels of the rabbits. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of Antioxidant and Lipid Lowering Treatment on Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease : With special reference to Mixed Tocopherols and Stable Fish Oil

    Författare :Meilin Liu; Afaf Kamal-Eldin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Cardiovascular disease; Antioxidants; Tocopherols; Endothelial constitutive nitric oxide synthase; Superoxide dismutase; Protein kinase C; Fish oils; Fatty acids; Simvastatin; Lipoprotein; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin E in food, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and lipid lowering treatment with statins have been found to decrease the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cardiac death. However, clinical trials revealed no beneficial effect of intake of alpha-tocopherol alone. LÄS MER
