1. Epidemiological Aspects of Renal Impairment in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
Sammanfattning : Diabetes is a leading cause of renal impairment (RI) and indication of the need for renal replacement therapy in many parts of the world. Albuminuria and RI are the two main forms of diabetic kidney disease. LÄS MER
2. Diagnostic and prognostic value of proteinuria in chronic renal diseases
Sammanfattning : To the extent that increased urinary protein excretion is an indicator of alterations of the glomerular capillary wall (GCW) and appearance of tubulointerstitial damage, proteinuria can be a good marker of the overall severity of the glomerular and tubulointerstitial damage, and therefore, the prognosis of glomerular diseases. Studies I, II, and III show that it is the type of proteinuria, rather than the degree of albuminuria, that predicts the progression in renal, proteinuric diseases. LÄS MER
3. Urinary Biomarkers and Patient Outcome in Chronic Kidney Disease and Atherosclerotic Heart Disease: The value of IgM-uria and IgG-uria
Sammanfattning : Risk stratification of patients with chronic kidney disease and atherosclerotic heart disease is crucial. Microalbuminuria (MA) is associated with an increased risk of kidney and cardiovascular (CV) death, especially in patients with diabetes. LÄS MER
4. Blood pressure, blood pressure development and potential risk factors for hypertension with special reference to metabolic factors and kidney function
Sammanfattning : Objectives: The overall aim of this thesis was to search for predictors of blood pressure development with special reference to anthropometric, metabolic and renal function variables.Study populations and methods: Two large long-term prospective population studies, The Population Study of Women in Gothenburg, Sweden carried out since 1968-69, with 1462 women between 38 and 60 years old at baseline and 24 year follow-up, and The Reykjavik Study, Iceland, which started in 1967 with an initial participation of 8285 men and 9183 women in various age groups. 5. The Kidney in Different Stages of the Cardiovascular Continuum
Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic kidney disease are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The complex, interaction between the kidney and the cardiovascular system is incompletely understood, particularly at the early stages of the cardiovascular continuum. LÄS MER
