1. NMR Studies of Bacterial Albumin-Binding Modules
Sammanfattning : Peptostreptococcus magnus and group C/G streptococci are Gram-positive cocci that are part of the normal flora and reside in more or less the same locations in the host. Protein G of group C/G streptococci was originally described as binding IgGFc of several species and later shown to also bind human serum albumin and albumins from various animal species. LÄS MER
2. An albumin-binding domain as a scaffold for bispecific affinity proteins
Sammanfattning : Protein engineering and in vitro selection systems are powerful methods to generate binding proteins. In nature, antibodies are the primary affinity proteins and their usefulness has led to a widespread use both in basic and applied research. LÄS MER
3. Evasion and Attack: Structural Studies of a Bacterial Albumin-binding Protein and of a Cephalosporin Biosynthetic Enzyme
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the crystal structures of two proteins in the context of combatting bacterial infections. The GA module is a bacterial albumin-binding domain from a surface protein expressed by pathogenic strains of the human commensal bacterium Finegoldia magna. LÄS MER
4. Evolutionary and functional studies of protein H: a surface molecule of Streptococcus pyogenes
Sammanfattning : Several bacterial species express surface proteins with affinity for the Fc part of human IgG. This thesis describes evolutionary and functional studies of protein H, an IgGFc-binding surface protein of the human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes. LÄS MER
5. Studies on albumin binding properties in pregnancy and early infancy : with special reference to maternal sulphasalazine treatment
Sammanfattning : Sulphasalazine (SASP) has been avoided during the later part of pregnancy and during breast-feeding as some sulphonamides possess the ability to displace bilirubin from albumin and thus increase the risk of bilirubin-induced brain damage in jaundiced neonates. However, withdrawal of SASP in a woman with ulcerative colitis would mean a cqnsiderable risk of relapse of her disease. LÄS MER
