1. Airway pressure release ventilation : A systematic experimental approach
Sammanfattning : Airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) is a ventilatory mode which allows unrestrictedspontaneous breathing (SB) throughout the ventilatory cycle. If SB is insufficient, mechanicalventilatory support is achieved by brief periodic decreases of the airway pressure below the CPAPlevel. LÄS MER
2. Transpulmonary pressure during mechanical ventilation
Sammanfattning : Background: Mechanical ventilation can aggravate lung injury by repetitive opening and closing of lung units, overdistention and undue pressure on pulmonary structures. Guidelines exist for lung protective ventilation, but individualized ventilator settings, based on partitioning of respiratory mechanics in pulmonary and chest wall complex components, would be beneficial. 3. Assessment of increased upper airway resistance in snorers. Methodological and diagnostic considerations
Sammanfattning : Sleep-related partial upper airway obstruction may cause increased morbidity and mortality, but diagnosis and treatment of patients is varying and inconsistent. The present studies were aimed to evaluate presently applied indirect methods for assessing respiratory ventilation and to investigate the value and accuracy in estimating upper airway resistance during sleep by measuring intrathoracic pressure variation with a microchip catheter in the esophagus. 4. Jet Ventilation for Airway Surgery : The Influence of Mode and Frequency on Ventilation Efficacy
Sammanfattning : In surgery for airway obstruction, the anesthetist and the ear-nose-throat surgeon share the approach to the airway and jet ventilation (JV) is a mutually convenient ventilation technique for both parties. As a consequence of the open system jet ventilation is applied in, bedside measurements of lung volumes are cumbersome to perform and thus, there is a lack of studies comparing different modes of JV or investigating the influence of ventilator settings on lung volumes and gas exchange. 5. Mean systemic filling pressure - from Guyton to the ICU, and back again
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Mean systemic filling pressure (MSFP) is the equilibrated vascular pressure at zero flow. Venous return (VR) driving pressure (VRdP) is the difference between MSFP and right atrial pressure (RAP). LÄS MER
