  1. 1. Vitreoscilla Haemoglobin - Peroxidase Activity and Metabolic Aspects

    Författare :Malin Kvist; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; lipid peroxidation; hypoxia; salt stress; Escherichia coli; Lactococcus lactis; hydrogen-bonding network; proximal site; mutations; Vitreoscilla haemoglobin; peroxidase activity; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : The function of non-vertebrate haemoglobins (Hbs) appears more diverse than that of vertebrate Hbs, possibly reflecting the various demands to be met among their hosts. Sharing structural features with other haem proteins/enzymes, Hbs display a qualitative overlap in activities with functions extending beyond oxygen transport/storage. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Vitreoscilla Haemoglobin. Genetic Fusions and Metabolic Characterisation

    Författare :Viktoria Roos; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; osmotic stress; transcript profiling; DNA microarrays; random elongation mutagenesis; directed evolution; mRNA structure; Vitreoscilla haemoglobin VHb ; Escherichia coli; salt stress.;

    Sammanfattning : Vitreoscilla is an obligate aerobic bacterium living in oxygen-poor environments such as stagnant ponds and decaying vegetable matter. Vitreoscilla expresses a homodimeric haemoglobin (VHb) when subjected to oxygen-limited conditions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Systems biology of yeast metabolism - Understanding metabolism through proteomics and constraint-based modeling

    Författare :Carl Malina; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proteomics; metabolism; Systems biology; constraint-based modeling; yeast;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolism is the set of all chemical reactions that occur inside of cells. By providing all the building blocks that are required for sustaining a cellular state and cell proliferation, metabolism is at the core of cellular function. Therefore, in order to understand cellular function it is important to understand cellular metabolism. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Carbon metabolism in non-conventional yeasts: biodiversity, origins of aerobic fermentation and industrial applications

    Författare :Nerve Zhou; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerobic fermentation; carbon metabolism; non-conventional yeasts; strain development;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract: For millennia, the “yeast” Saccharomyces cerevisiae remains by far the most extensively studied and exploited yeast in food and industrial applications. A number of researches and developments have been done since the establishment of the biochemical function of yeast by Louis Pasteur in 1860, however modern lifestyles often connected to food related health trends demand new and innovative food products. 5. 5. Engineering cytosolic acetyl-CoA metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Yiming Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reverse engineering; flavodoxin; genomic DNA sequencing; ferredoxin; histone deacetylase; adaptive evolution; ferredoxin flavodoxin NADP reductase; pyruvate decarboxylase; citrate synthase; hexose transporter; yeast; mitochondria; aerobic growth; metabolic engineering.; acetyl-CoA; central carbon metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : A Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain carrying deletions in all three pyruvate decarboxylase genes (also called Pdc negative yeast) represents a non-ethanol producing platform strain for biochemical production. However, it cannot grow on glucose as the sole carbon source due to the lack of cytosolic acetyl-CoA for lipid biosynthesis. LÄS MER
