1. Long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on cardiovascular disease and cancer
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on breast cancer recurrence and mortality, cardiovascular disease, and the incidence of secondary cancer.Between 1982 and 1992, postmenopausal patients with early stage breast cancer were included in a randomized clinical study of 2 or 5 years of postoperative tamoxifen therapy. 2. To predict results of breast cancer therapy
Sammanfattning : We have used the almost complete national Swedish Cancer register, regional quality management register and one randomized adjuvant endocrine trial to study, the effect of radiotherapy in breast cancer with 1-3 positive nodes (study 1), the effect of tamoxifen in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive tumors depending on expression of the progesterone receptor (PR) (studies 2 and 4) and the development of the survival rates of breast cancer in Sweden 1989-2013 (study 3) Study 1. We compared relative breast cancer survival in two Swedish health care regions that between 1989 and 2006 had different guidelines for postoperative radiotherapy. LÄS MER
3. Diagnosis and Radioimmunotherapy of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinomas
Sammanfattning : The diagnosis and treatment of patients with advanced tumors in the head and neck is an interesting challenge where there is a need for new approaches in diagnostics and adjuvant treatment. Differences in antigen expression between tumors and normal tissues provide a means for application of antibody-based targeting techniques. LÄS MER
4. Prognostic Factors in Early Stages (FIGO I-II) of Epithelial Ovarian Carcinoma
Sammanfattning : From January, 1988, to December, 1993, 113 patients with FIGO stage IA-IIC epithelial ovarian carcinoma were treated with postoperative radiotherapy. The median follow-up period was 74 months. Tumor recurrences were recorded in 33 cases (30%). The cancer-specific survival rate was 72%. LÄS MER
5. Cell cycle alterations and 11q13 amplification in breast cancer : prediction of adjuvant treatment response
Sammanfattning : The growth and development of the breast is to a large extent regulated by oestrogens through the oestrogen receptor (ER). Activation of the ERα triggers transcription of genes that are important for cell proliferation and stimulates entry into the G1 phase of the cell cycle. LÄS MER
