1. The zone concept : design of low-voltage installations considering the spread of high frequency harmonics
Sammanfattning : The use of electric power has become a backbone of the modern society. Together with the growth in possible applications of electric power, we also see a growth in the number of devices and the interest of using electrical energy as an environmentally-friendly alternative to other sources of energy. 2. Fluid-rock interaction in two seismically active areas : The Tjörnes Fracture Zone, northern Iceland and the Shillong Plateau, northeastern India
Sammanfattning : Hydrogeochemical monitoring can improve our understanding of fluid-rock interaction, and may detect anomalies that are precursory to- or caused by- earthquakes. In this study, hydrogeochemical monitoring was carried out in two distinct tectonic settings, to study coupling between hydrogeochemical changes and seismic activity. LÄS MER
3. Self-Regulating Active Chilled Beams
Sammanfattning : By designing comfort cooling systems to operate with higher chilled water temperatures, electricity driven chillers may be replaced by natural sources of free cooling. It also enables the possibility of self-regulation which, due to simplicity and robustness, brings cost-savings both during installation and maintenance of the building. LÄS MER
4. Electrochemical Methods for Drug Characterisation and Transdermal Delivery : Capillary Zone Electrophoresis, Conductometry, and Iontophoresis
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the development and utilisation of techniques for characterisation and transdermal delivery of various systems for pharmaceutical applications. The degree of dissociation of drug molecules and the mobilities of the different species formed are essential factors affecting the rate of drug delivery by iontophoresis. 5. The Physical Foundation of the Patterning of Physical Action Verbs : A Study of Chinese Verbs
Sammanfattning : This work is a study of verbal semantics with a focus on the discussion and illustration of the role of body parts and the semantic incorporation into verbal roots of the actions that involve various body parts. Following a general discussion of the basic issues of language construction and human body actions with the image schemas of force-dynamics presented in line with the framework of cognitive semantics, it is argued that the event structures of physical action verbs are not arbitrarily constructed but rather the constructions are built through systematic cognitive processes in relation to both human physical reality and concrete reality in the world.
