  1. 1. The effect of mechanical ventilation on abdominal organs : Analysing the role of PEEP and perfusion

    Författare :Silvia Marchesi; Miklós Lipcsey; Anders Larsson; Göran Hedenstierna; Torbjörn Karlsson; Anders Oldner; Ragnvi Hagman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ARDS; sepsis; abdominal inflammation; edema; perfusion; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The effect of mechanical ventilation on abdominal organs is not well understood and investigated yet. Previous studies, using an animal sepsis-like model, found an association between mechanical ventilation (MV) and abdominal edema and inflammation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The effect of mechanical ventilation on the abdominal organs

    Författare :Silvia Marchesi; Miklós Lipcsey; Anders Larsson; Göran Hedenstierna; Eddie Weitzberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanical ventilation; abdominal organs; diffusion weighted imaging; magnetic resonance; perfusion; edema; inflammation; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : During mechanical ventilation (MV), the interplay between abdomen and thorax has been studied unilaterally focusing on the effect that an increased abdominal pressure would have on the thorax. Only a small cluster of studies offered a different perspective showing a lower inflammation and a better lymphatic clearance of edema in abdominal organs when spontaneous breathing was applied compared to MV. 3. 3. Effect of Ventilatory Support on Abdominal Fluid Balance in a Sepsis Model

    Författare :Marco Lattuada; Göran Hedenstierna; Filip Fredén; Anders Oldner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mechanical ventilation; lymph flow; spontaneous breathing; positive end-expiratory pressure; PEEP; abdominal edema; inflammation; intra-abdominal pressure; IAP; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care; Clinical Physiology; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In patients affected by acute respiratory failure or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) the leading cause of death is failure of different vital organs other than the lungs, so called multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). The abdominal organs have a crucial role in the pathogenesis of this syndrome. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Rac1 signaling regulates platelet-dependent inflammation abdominal sepsis

    Författare :Rundk Hwaiz; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; abdominal sepsis; Rac1; platelet; neutrophil; chemokine; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome to a localized or systemic infection that leads to the over production of proinflammatory cytokines and the ultimate failure of multiple organ systems. However, little is known about the potential role of Rac1 in controlling sepsis-induced intracellular signaling pathways. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Platelet-dependent pulmonary recruitment of neutrophils in abdominal sepsis

    Författare :Milladur Rahman; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; abdominal sepsis; neutrophil recruitment; platelet; lung injury;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis and subsequent multiple organ failure remain the major cause of mortality in intensive care units. Leukocyte-mediated tissue damage is a key feature in septic lung injury. Accumulating data suggest that platelets play a role in inflammation and tissue injury. LÄS MER
