  1. 1. Population modeling using harpacticoid copepods : Bridging the gap between individual-level effects and protection goals of environmental risk assessment

    Författare :Elin Lundström Belleza; Magnus Breitholtz; Annemette Palmqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Population modeling; Eco toxicity tests; Environmental risk assessment; Harpacticoid copepods; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : To protect the environment from contaminants, environmental risk assessment (ERA) evaluates the risk of adverse effects to populations, communities and ecosystems. Environmental management decisions rely on ERAs, which commonly are based on a few endpoints at the individual organism level. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Dynamical Modeling of Cloud Applications for Runtime Performance Management

    Författare :Johan Ruuskanen; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cloud computing; Performance modeling; Queueing theory; Processor sharing; Mean-field approximation; Fluid model; Microservices; Load balancing; Request cloning;

    Sammanfattning : Cloud computing has quickly grown to become an essential component in many modern-day software applications. It allows consumers, such as a provider of some web service, to quickly and on demand obtain the necessary computational resources to run their applications. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Stochastic Modeling and Management of an Emergency Call Center : A Case Study at the Swedish Emergency CallCenter Provider, SOS Alarm Sverige AB

    Författare :Klas Gustavsson; Leif Olsson; Panagiotis Papapetrou; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Call Center Management; Burst Modeling; Stochastic Resources; Skills-Based Routing; Discrete-Event-Simulation;

    Sammanfattning : A key task of managing an inbound call center is in estimating its performance and consequently plan its capacity, which can be considered a complex task since several system variables are stochastic. These issues are highly crucial for certain time-sensitive services, such as emergency call services. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Statistical Methods for Computational Markets : Proportional Share Market Prediction and Admission Control

    Författare :Thomas Sandholm; Magnus Boman; Mark Baker; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Distributed Systems; Grid Computing; Performance Analysis; Workload Modeling; Middleware; Quality of Service; Prediction; Admission Control; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : We design, implement and evaluate statistical methods for managing uncertainty when consuming and provisioning resources in a federated computational market. To enable efficient allocation of resources in this environment, providers need to know consumers' risk preferences, and the expected future demand. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Workload characterization, controller design and performance evaluation for cloud capacity autoscaling

    Författare :Ahmed Ali-Eldin Hassan; Erik Elmroth; Johan Tordsson; Prashant Shenoy; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cloud computing; autoscaling; workloads; performance modeling; controller design;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis studies cloud capacity auto-scaling, or how to provision and release re-sources to a service running in the cloud based on its actual demand using an auto-matic controller. As the performance of server systems depends on the system design,the system implementation, and the workloads the system is subjected to, we focuson these aspects with respect to designing auto-scaling algorithms.
