1. Deviant sexual behavior, hormones and sex-chromosomal relationship : A study in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR)
Sammanfattning : The general aim of the present thesis was to gain insight into some biological factors that influencedeviant sexual performance. Two inbred strains selectively bred (hypertension) from the same Wistarrat colony were used: the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) and its normotensive progenitor theWistar Kyoto rat (WKY). 2. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension
Sammanfattning : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. LÄS MER
3. Reciprocal interactions of neuropeptide y and angiotensin II receptors with a2-adrenoceptors in the nucleus tractus solitarii of the rat
Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide Y (NPY), angiotensin II (Ang II) and adrenergic transmission lines in the nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS), the major relay nucleus involved in the cardiovascular reflex, play an important role in central cardiovascular control. The present work explored reciprocal interactions of NPY and Ang II receptor subtypes with a2-adrenoceptors in the NTS of the normotensive Sprague-Dawley rat (SD), the normotensive Wistar Kyoto rat (WKY) and the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) by using a cardiovascular analysis, quantitative receptor autoradiography, immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridization techniques. 4. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction. In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals).
