  1. 1. Defining the clinical usefulness of vertebral fracture assessment

    Författare :Lisa Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vertebral fracture; vertebral fracture assessment; osteoporosis; DXA; HRpQCT; bone microindentation; mild vertebral fracture; physical function; fracture risk; incident fracture; older women;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Vertebral fractures (VFs) are the most common osteoporotic fracture and among the strongest predictors for future fracture. VFs can be identified by vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) from lateral spine imaging (LSI) by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Vertebral Deformity and Vertebral Fracture in the Elderly

    Författare :Ralph Hasserius; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Surgery; Hip fracture; Morbidity; Mortality; Prediction; Non-participants; Prevalence; Osteoporosis; Vertebral deformity; Vertebral fracture;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis is a systemic, skeletal disease with the consequence of an increased risk of sustaining a fracture, one of the most common fractures being a vertebral fracture. The lifetime risk of sustaining a clinically diagnosed vertebral fracture from age 50 years onward is 8% in men and 15% in women. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture. Its natural course and characteristics

    Författare :Nobuyuki Suzuki; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Vertebral body fracture; Osteoporosis; Pain; Quality of life; Disability; Compression fracture; Prognosis; Treatment; Prevalent fracture; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the natural course and the characteristics of the acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture in order to better understand and improve treatment for this type of fracture. Patients and methods: Eligible patients were all patients over 40 years of age who sought medical care at the emergency unit at Sahlgrenska University Hospital (studies I-III) or referred to the X-ray Department at Capio Diagnostic Center (study IV) because of back pain with a radiographically-confirmed acute vertebral body fracture which resulted from a low energy trauma. 4. 4. Health-Related Quality of Life in Postmenopausal Women with Osteoporotic Fractures

    Författare :Inger Hallberg; Anna-Christina Ek; Margareta Bachrach-Lindström; Göran Toss; Olle Svensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone Mineral Density; Hip Fracture; Osteoporosis; Spinal Deformity Index; Vertebral fracture; Nursing; Omvårdnad;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The global burden of osteoporosis includes considerable numbers of fractures, morbidity, mortality and expenses, due mainly to vertebral, hip and forearm fractures. Underdiagnosis and undertreatment are common. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Epidemiology of Physical Activity and Fragility Fractures

    Författare :Karl Stattin; Liisa Byberg; Jonas Björk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physical activity; fracture; fragility fracture; epidemiology; cohort study; proteomic; walking; exercise; cross-country skiing; skiing; Vasaloppet.; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Fragility fractures mainly affect elderly individuals and often cause long term pain, loss of function and higher mortality rates. Physical activity improves balance, increases muscle strength and bone mineral density, and may reduce the risk of fragility fractures. LÄS MER
