1. Unique Solutions to Universal Problems : Studies of the Archaeal Cell
Sammanfattning : Archaea is one of the three domains of life and studies of archaeal biology are important for understanding of life in extreme environments, fundamental biogeochemical processes, the origin of life, the eukaryotic cell and their own, unique biology. This thesis presents four studies of the archaeal cell, using the extremophilic Sulfolobus and ocean living Nitrosopumilus as model systems. LÄS MER
2. Using Probiotics in Intensive Care with Special Reference to Lactobacillus plantarum 299 and 299v
Sammanfattning : Probiotics are Live microorganisms that confer a health benefit on the host. The composition of the microflora in the gastrointestinal tract is rather constant in healthy subjects, but is easily disturbed by severe illness and the use of antibiotics. LÄS MER
3. Semicarbazide-sensitive Amine Oxidase (SSAO) – Regulation and Involvement in Blood Vessel Damage with Special Regard to Diabetes : A Study on Mice Overexpressing Human SSAO
Sammanfattning : Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO, EC 1.4.3.6) belongs to a family of copper-containing amine oxidases. LÄS MER
4. Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase and vascular complications in diabetes mellitus : Biochemical and molecular aspects
Sammanfattning : Plasma activity of the enzyme semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO; EC.1.4.3. LÄS MER
5. Virion- and VAP-receptor recognition in the human adenovirus type 2 system
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the early steps of a complex virus-cell interaction. The human adenovirus type 2 (HAdV-2) infects permissive cells, by first recognizing a protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily that serves as the Coxsackie and adenovirus receptor (CAR). This attachment step is mediated by the adenovirus fiber protein. LÄS MER
