  1. 1. Vitamin B6 as a potential antioxidant : a study emanating from UV-B-stressed plants

    Författare :Mikael Ristilä; Åke Strid; Leif Eriksson; Éva Hideg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; UV-B irradiation; pyridoxine; vitamin B6; ROS; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Increased influx of solar UV-B radiation (280-320 nm), due to a decreasing stratospheric ozone layer, impacts severely on plants. Some of the UV-B effects on plants are related to stress induced by produced reactive oxygen species (ROS). Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) has been reported to be a potential quencher of ROS. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Temperature effects on UV-B induced DNA damage and repair in plants and a lichen

    Författare :Markus Paulsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tobacco Nicotiana tabacum ; Temperature; Subarctic; Plants; Photoreactivation; Photolyase; Lichen; DNA damage; Cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers CPD ; 6-4 Photoproducts; Cladonia arbuscula ssp. mitis; Ultraviolet radiation; UV-B; Vaccinium vitis-idaea; Plant genetics; Växtgenetik;

    Sammanfattning : All living organisms have DNA and since DNA is essential to life it must be repaired when damaged. UV radiation is one of the major DNA damaging agents, which photosynthetic organisms cannot avoid. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The molecular mechanisms behind perception and signal transduction of UV-B irradiation in Arabidopsis thaliana

    Författare :Irina Kalbina; Åke Strid; Lars-Gunnar Franzén; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Action spectroscopy; Arabidopsis; gene expression; reverse genetics; signal transduction; UV-B irradiation.; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Elevation of UV-B radiation (280-315 nm), occurring as a result of depletion of the stratospheric ozone, causes a number of physiological and biochemical changes in plants. Damage to the photosynthetic apparatus (including the bleaching of the pigments which trap the sun's energy), to the processes of cell division and growth regulation, and to the composition and replication of genetic material are just some of these changes. 5. 5. Effects of enhanced ultraviolet-B radiation on subarctic ecosystems

    Författare :Carola Gehrke; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pigmentation; photosynthesis; dark respiration; shoot morphology; shoot growth; phanerogams ; species composition cryptogams; productivity; decomposition; dwarf shrubs; bryophytes; peatland ecosystem; heath ecosystem; UV-B; ozone depletion; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biologically harmful ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B, 280-320 nm) is increasing at the Earth´s surface owing to stratospheric ozone depletion. This is of global concern due to potential impacts of enhanced UV-B radiation on the biosphere. LÄS MER
