  1. 1. New neurons and astrocytes in the adult brain. Studies on adult rat neural progenitors in vivo and in vitro with special reference to the effects of IGF-I and CNTF regarding proliferation and lineage determination

    Författare :Maria A I Åberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Brain; hippocampus; rat; neurogenesis; progenitor cell; stem cell; ciliary neurotrophic factor; insulin-like growth factor-I; PI3-K; MAPK.;

    Sammanfattning : The hippocampal dentate gyrus in several species, including man, continues to produce new neurons and glial cells in adulthood. The generation of new neurons and glial cells in the adult hippocampus is under strict regulation. Two major events of significance for cell genesis from progenitor cells are proliferation and lineage determination. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On CNS injury and olfactory ensheathing cell engraftment strategies

    Författare :I-Hui Lee; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The intrinsic regenerative capacity of the adult mammalian central nervous system (CNS) is limited because of lack of nerve-growth stimulatory factors and presence of an insurmountable molecular environment for injured axons. This thesis aims to study neural regeneration following adult CNS injury, using rodent models of spinal cord injury, dorsal root avulsion, and Parkinson s disease. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Andraspråkstalare i arbete : En språkvetenskaplig studie av kommunikation vid ett svenskt storföretag

    Författare :Marie Nelson; Britt-Louise Gunnarsson; Ulla Börestam; Catrin Norrby; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; workplace interaction; immigrants; second language speakers; interactional sociolinguistics; ethnography; communicative network; relational talk; professional writing; social integration; Swedish language; Svenska språket; Nordiska språk; Scandinavian Languages;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a study of the everyday communication of second language speakers in a major Swedish company. On the basis of eighteen interviews with permanently employed industrial and office workers, who came to Sweden as adults from countries outside the Nordic region where non-Germanic languages are spoken, five individuals were chosen for observation. 4. 4. Type IV collagen in breast and colorectal cancer : a potential biomarker of metastatic disease

    Författare :Moa Lindgren; Hanna Nyström; Ingrid Ljuslinder; Malin Sund; Kristian Pietras; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; colorectal liver metastases; breast cancer; breast cancer metastases; tumor marker; biomarker; stroma; type IV collagen;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) and metastatic breast cancer (mBC) are two leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Early detection of metastatic disease is critical, and sensitive, easily accessed and cost-effective biomarkers that can diagnose mBC and mCRC at an early stage would have high clinical value. 5. 5. Antigen-specific islet antibodies: prediction of beta cell failure and differentiation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Henrik Borg; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; seropositive; seronegative; slowly-progressive; Type 2; Type 1; classification; IA-2A; IA-2; GADA; GAD; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; beta cell function; diabetes mellitus; adult-onset; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), protein tyrosine-phosphatase-like protein (IAÐ2A), and/or pancreatic islet cells (ICA) are autoimmune markers usually present at diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is therefore in general believed to be caused by an immune-mediated beta cell destruction. LÄS MER
