1. Gångtunneln : Urbana erfarenheter i svensk ungdomslitteratur 1890–2010
Sammanfattning : This thesis shows that the urban experience is a fundamental part of the development of the Swedish young adult novel by analysing city representations in Swedish young adult literature from 1890 to 2010. By suggestion that there is a strong bond between the notion of the urban and that of adolescence this study examines continuity and change in representations of coming-of-age, focusing especially on intersections between age, gender, class, ethnicity and sexuality. 2. Constructing the Suburb : Swedish Discourses of Spatial Stigmatisation
Sammanfattning : By exploring representations of place, this thesis treats practices of spatial stigmatisation in the context of segregated Swedish cities. In three papers, different aspects of stigmatisation and place-making are discussed and analysed, where the overarching ambition is to identify and critically deconstruct the ideology behind stigma as well as suggest ways of making representation positive. 3. Afloat and Aflame. Deconstructing the Long 19th century Port City Gothenburg through Newspaper Archaeology
Sammanfattning : In line with the international historical-archaeological discipline, this study aims to increase knowledge of marginalising processes and disenfranchised groups in the past and to contribute to the recognised Swedish need to augment the know-how of researching people ‘of little note’ in urban environments. The study aspires a theoretically engaged empirical alternative for developing new knowledge about urban places which are not possible to excavate or where archaeological data is insufficient, while evincing how digitized historical newspapers can step in as a multifaceted historical- archaeological source. 4. Att skapa ett framtidens folk : Governmentality och miljödiskurs i modern svensk bostadspolitik: miljonprogramsområdet Navestad
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to focus on the way in which power is exercised by housing policy, in the form of environmental visions and procedures in a context where governmental, municipal and local structures and participants cooperates towards a specific residential area. The study is based on the ecological project in Navestad, a suburb area in Norrköping, that is a pilot project in the local investments programs that the government established to create an ecologically durable society. 5. Dialogen i socialt arbete : en studie av socialbyråsamtal i ljuset av modern dialogteori
Sammanfattning : This dissertation concerns the dialogical encounters that take place between social workcr and client within the social services. The empirical material consists of 21 dialogues, 19 of which wcre recorded at two social welfare offices, one located in the center of Stockholm and the other in a suburb, and two which were recorded at the youth counseling office.
