    Sammanfattning : Throughout history, people have used products from different microorganisms and plants for many medicinal and nutritional applications. Chilli peppers have been used for spicing up food, but also for their pharmacological properties. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Changes in human uterine innervation in term pregnancy and labor occurence and roles of neurotrophins and TRPV1

    Författare :Berith Karlsson Tingåker; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Uterus; corpus uteri; cervix uteri; pregnancy; labor pain; neurotrophins; NGF; TRPV1; sensory corpuscles; human.;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Cervical ripening, is a prerequisite for successful labor, which is often very painful and involves an inflammatory reaction. However, little is presently known con-cerning nerve-related changes in the human uterus during labor and the fundamental hy-pothesis tested here was that labor pain emanates primarily from the cervix uteri. 3. 13. Distribution and function of TRP ion channels in primary sensory neurons

    Sammanfattning : It is frequently argued that cannabinoids exert part of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via activation of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor located on TRPV1-expressing primary sensory nerve fibres in peripheral tissues. However, we find no evidence of CB1 receptor immunoreactivity on nerve fibres in rat or mouse hindpaw skin and mesenteric artery. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Microfluidics based techniques for electrophysiological studies of cells

    Författare :Aikeremu Ahemaiti; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis work investigates the application of microfluidics to perform electrophysiological studies on cells, including investigations of the effect of cholesterol on the dynamic ion permeability of TRPV1 ion channels, and the application of a microfluidic device, the multifunctional pipette, in electrophysiological studies on brain slices. In the first part of this thesis, Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells overexpressing the TRPV1 ion channel were used in a dynamic ion permeability study, where the activation properties of the TRPV1 ion channel were investigated using the patch clamp technique after depletion of membrane cholesterol. 5. 15. Signaling Mechanisms in the Neuronal Networks of Pain and Itch

    Författare :Katarzyna Rogoz; Klas Kullander; Malin Lagerström; Stephen McMahon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mouse genetics; neuronal network; glutamate; sensory neuron; dorsal root ganglion; pain; itch; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Glutamate is the essential neurotransmitters in pain pathways. The discovery of the vesicular glutamate transporters (VGLUT1-3) has been a fundamental step on the way to describe glutamate-dependent pain pathways. We used the Cre-lox system to construct conditional knockouts with deficient Vglut2 transmission in specific neuronal populations. LÄS MER
