6. Efficient reduction techniques for a large-scale Transmission Expansion Planning problem
Sammanfattning : The aim of Transmission Expansion Planning (TEP) studies is to decide which, where, and when new grid elements should be built in order to minimize the total system cost. The lumpiness of the investment decisions, together with the large size of the problem, make the problem very hard to solve. LÄS MER
7. Inguinal Hernia Surgery in Men - Chronic Pain and Sexual Dysfunction
Sammanfattning : Life time occurrence of inguinal hernia is 30% of men. Most are symptomatic and will require surgical treatment. Operation will commonly cure the hernia but remaining chronic pain or new pain is seen in 10–15%. Groin pain due to an inguinal hernia can cause impairment of sexual functions. LÄS MER
8. Strategies, Methods and Tools for Solving Long-term Transmission Expansion Planning in Large-scale Power Systems
Sammanfattning : Driven by a number of factors, the electric power industry is expected to undergo a paradigm shift with a considerably increased level of variable energy sources. A significant integration of such sources requires heavy transmission investments over geographically wide and large-scale networks. LÄS MER
9. Electron transport properties of graphene and graphene field-effect devices studied experimentally
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains experimental studies on electronic transport properties of graphene with the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect, thermopower (TEP) measurements, dual-gated graphene field effect devices, and quantum Hall effect (QHE). Firstly, in an effort to enhance the AB effect in graphene, we place superconducting-metal (aluminium) or normal-metal (gold) mirrors on the graphene rings. LÄS MER
10. The interaction between the neuroretina and the retinal pigment epithelium : an electrophysiological study of the effects of possible messenger substances and their analogues
Sammanfattning : The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is of great importance in photoreceptor homeostasis. The photoreceptors are highly specialized cells which cannot survive without the RPE. It has been postulated that messenger substances are involved in the interaction between the RPE and the inner retina. LÄS MER
